Title: Refinishing Mossberg: How long can it remain unfinished after blasting?
Post by: kramer on June 22 2016 06:07:23 PM MDT
I blasted the gun today and then realized the Gun Kote color I was shipped was the incorrect. So it's going to take a week to get here. I know the receiver and mag tube are aluminum and won't corrode but what about the barrel? Is it ok to let it sit for a week? I guess the only alternative would be to run a coat of oil over it but it makes it that much harder to prep the gun since I already made sure it was devoid of lubricants. It's a Mosseberg 500.

You will need to lightly blast it again when you get the right color, aluminum starts oxidizing immediately after blasting

and btw, a mossberg 500 mag tube is steel not aluminum. I have cut several down from an 8 shot version to make one for the shorter tube guns
