What a dope :-[ Was testing some recently loaded 10 and 45 when I got careless and put one across the bow taking out the second sensor. I guess I figured it could or would happen to me someday. I have tried not to judge or laugh at others when they did it. Not sure if I should fix it or replace it. I have a spare Caldwell that I am not in love with.

I have done it. Luckily mine was just sheet metal damage. It still works fine.
Bad 20, BAD! No Underwood for you!
Not that I've ever done that... :o
I'm partial to my MagnetoSpeed V3... Harder to accidentally shoot, in my experience...

That's funny. Can't punish the gun though. She was just doing what the dummy behind her was telling her to do. ::)
Yup, been there, done that ;D
If the LED under the sensor window is not damaged then it should be OK. The parts are not too badly priced but shipping is outrageous...Good luck! :D
I popped my chrony this weekend as well. Testing an old 45acp Witness, sights were a little higher than poi. I would offer you some parts but there isn't much left. This is the 3rd in 3 years so I am on the waiting list for a Labrador chronograph.
been there, done that. twice! :-[
Look in the archives for my setup after killing one. I actually grazed my Steel plate I put in front last time out. It has saved it about 6 times now!
Thanks for the support guys and the cool tips to prevent this in the future. I will start working on my new setup before the new Chrony even gets here. I have everything in the shop. I like the ironing board too. Wife might fight me on that one though.
Yours looks fine. New clear lens, black housing and bend the aluminum back into shape.
Tell your wife this is why you need to buy a LabRadar chrony. Can't do that with a LabRadar. ;D
Just a flesh wound. It'll probably work fine if you do nothing to fix it. They're fairly simple and very forgiving. Call Chrony, parts aren't expensive. I've hit mine a few times over the years, mostly bullet fragments and sabots on the rods, but a few direct hits. It was always repairable, with a bit of sheet metal straightening and Gorilla tape. The last one finally killed my original. Full power 230 gr. .460R right down main street (10mm hit was tame, by comparison). Chrony shipped a new housing, sensors, rods, diffusers, and cable for less than 70 bucks. Give them a call.
Ow. :(
Messed with it quite a bit today. Not going to work. Needs rear sensor. I will save it for parts. I have be informed that for fathers day I can get a new one along with a new Tumbler. ;D My 30 year old Thumbler is about dead. So with that said. Which one to get? Another Chrony? F1 master? Would like the remote screen this time.
What make is the tumbler? My old Dillon (CV-2000) burned out the motor, they said send it back with a check for $70 and They actually sent me a brand new CV-2001 to replace it...
So check for warranty if any.

Thanks for the tip. It is actually more Scott Murray than Thumbler. It is a hodgepodge of old parts from both. I am ready for a new one. The Dillon and Lyman are on my list. Guessing they are both Chinese.
..I understand there are so many dead Chronys, they put out a cook book....kinda like the Road Kill Cafe Cookbook for electronics. :o
One thing I learned a long time ago was if someone wants their loads chronoed, I shoot the loads across MY chrono not them. I had a friend nick the rear screen on an Ohler 33 many years ago and never let anyone shoot their own gun again.
Another thing that helps is to put up a target to sight on.

Hey I know this is an old thread, but I shot mine yesterday with the Glock 20, only took out one of the shade rods, I found it and was able to bend it back enough so atleast its still works, so thats shot #2, earlier this year it took an xtp from my G19 to one of the front corners, no vitals hit, so its been pretty lucky. I have a Caldwell and so far its been pretty good.
Bamboo skewers work well as replacements in a pinch, if they get hit nothing lost...
Yeah...In fact I suggest to people to just replace the metal shade rods with wood right away. If you accidentally catch a wood rod, it just shatters. Hit a metal one and it takes your chrono for a ride.
I shot my light diffuser last week. I have been shooting over the chronograph for 30 years, and never hit one.
.
This topic had me spooked now lol :o

I've left mine home alone several times and it never runs out and kills anyone.

I shot my chrony with 308 and did my (extra) part to keep em in business.
