Embarking on yet another new chapter of handloading! I'm studying and about to start reloading 223/556 soon as the dies arrive. Have some brass I'm preparing but waiting on a new cutter for the cutting of the crimped primer for easier primer insertions.
Looking at some heavier 70 - 78 grain projectiles, but want to match the Black Hills 77 grain MK262 loadings...
So the fun is starting and the testing as well to see how it shakes out! :D
You and me both.
I had a bunch of back stock of 55 grain projectiles. Those have been loaded up now and as soon as I can get some time on the unloading machine, I will be ready to work up a load for my "SPR" build. I hope I can find a recipe that will shoot well with WC846 powder as I have about 20 lbs of it on hand.
Hey Mitch look at this info: http://www.223reloads.com/home/223-5-56-info/223-5-56-reloading/wc-846-loads (http://www.223reloads.com/home/223-5-56-info/223-5-56-reloading/wc-846-loads)
This might help you come to a loading consensus...
Try Alliant Power Pro 2000-MR... this stuff flows like water and produces epic velocity with heavy .223 and .308. I pushed a 150 gr FMJ out of a 16" barrel to 2700 fps... can move 175 gr out of a carbine to 2500 fps..
Thanks! That is a good read.
Kinda makes me wish I had purchased a couple of jugs of the 844 when I bought my 846. I got them for $48/8lbs back in the day.
Glad you like that article, I also learned a few things. :D I like when they show the equivalent of various powders...possibly renamed batches of same overruns or changed contractual productions.
Thanks PointBlank82, I have some data for the Alliant products that I am studying as well. Power Pro 2000MR is certainly a good candidate and seems similar to CFE223 and a few others. I only wish Alliant would post the test barrel lengths twist ratios and pressure values for their published & tested loads. :(

What is your bbl twist rate? Heavy bullets like 1/7, but most come with a 1/9 rate.
At the moment the one I'm loading for is a 1:7" twist rate...
My SPR has a Rainier Arms Ultramatch 18" barrel with a 1:8 twist and a rifle length gas system. I picked 1:8 as a compromise to still be able to shoot lighter bullets if wanted. I don't see ever going over 77 grain bullets as the 80+ grain pills use of too much case capacity unless you single load them.
Just started 223 last year along with 308. Have been using H335 and BL-C (2) for both mostly because its available. Other than 444, I have only reloaded handgun for close to 30 years. Rifle is more work but just as fun and rewarding for me. I look forward to your feedback.
I've got a 100 loaded to set the optics and scope when I get some range time but man it is sweltering here in Louisiana. Temps in the 90's and heat indexes at 100 - 108 today between rain storms... :(
Loaded with Hornady 75 grain BTHP over 24.6 grains of CFE223, some with CCI and Some with Winchester primers.

Got a few more to load up...

My most recent ventures was a thousand 223/5.56 brass with crimped primers. What I found while cutting, cleaning primer pockets was the primer staking process does make the pockets out of round down the inside on some. With some being pretty deeply distorted...
I bought a RCBS small pocket cutter and using it handheld, I could feel the high spots, as I was cutting and uniforming them. Glad that those are done now!
Now to find some cooler weather, to go test what I have loaded and adjust the optics... ::)
