So I'm casually watching the Fox Business News channel when this subject comes up;
There is a tax being proposed in Cook County (Chicago), IL, on ammo and guns. 5 cents per round of ammo, and $25 on firearms. And it's supposedly to curb gun violence. If the tax(s) is passed the county expects a collection of $1,000,000.00 per year in revenue from it. I forget the name of the lady proposing the tax(s), but the guy talking about it was a Chicago alderman by the name of Joe Moreno who also supports the tax(s).
This particular alderman said he'ld even support it if the ammo tax was as much as 50 cents per round of ammo.
Some info from the Chicago Police Department that was shown showed that Chicago homicides from January 1st - October 14th of 2011 was 331. For the same time frame in 2012 it has risen to 417. I'm not playing into their stupid ideas by posting those numbers, I'm just posting those numbers for anyone who might be curious regardless.

Most criminals don't buy guns and ammo for gun store sales, so therefore the tax is just a burden on average citizen.
Taxes put money in the politicians coffers period! I bet these funds were not specificly ear marked for any thing other that general fund!
They'll lose money, not make it. Local suppliers will lose money. Outlying counties ammo suppliers will make bank. Local consumption taxes never work. Come to think of it, who's buying bullets in Chicago, anyway? Don't guns kill people, there? Where do the guns get their bullets? Yeah. Fine example of a solution to a problem. Again, they're talkin' to the wrong end of the horse.
The sad part is often the Chicago element saddles the whole state with their inane laws. I was visiting the family farm outside Marshall, IL, about 200 miles south of Chicago a couple years ago. Went to walmart to get some 22 ammo. I couldn't buy ammo since I was not a resident of IL or an adjoining state with a FOID card.
Funny, they Walmart 20 miles away in Indiana sold it to me without question.
That's what will happen. Business will be driven to the closest outlet. They'll not only not get their new tax, they'll also lose out on current taxes, and of course in the end, the losers are (otherwise) law abiding citizens and the business owners. One more freedom taking flight, methinks.
After having spent most of my adult life in Illinois, I am glad to be a resident of North Carolina that actually support our 2nd Amendment rights. Just as important, make sure that we all get out and vote to maintain our God given rights to freedom in this country. I am comfortable knowing that Obama is on the skids. The truth will set you free!
