Heya
Just wanted to show what Longshot does in the 40. I transforms the .40 into a 10mm.. IMR lists 8.0grs as max and Hornady lists 7.5grs. 7.7grs is just about right. Great ES and good group.
Also shot the N350 load that always performs.. And experimented with some others.
For some reason I starting to loose one low once in a while.. I shoot groups off of a pistol rest so I don't know how the gun is moving that much..

Longshot is a great powder for the .40 S&W. For years Hodgdons book max for 180gr was 8.0gr. I've worked up to 8.5gr in stock Glock barrels with very good results.
From stock G35 8.5gr gives nearly 1,300 fps with 180gr JHP and from a G23 it was hovering a notch over 1200 fps.
And for what it's worth...with a 10% over book charge (based off 8.0gr as book max) from a KKM 6" barrel I got just over 1,400 fps average with 180gr JHP ... pretty impressive for a .40, a cartridge some love to hate for some reason.
I agree it is a solid round.
I still love to hate it. Reason being in my warped perception, if the 40 hadn't come along, the 10mm would have been the uber-darling cartridge of the 90's and 00's.
I know, woulda, coulda, mighta, but deep down at some non-rational emotional level, that is how I feel.
