Title: Your Favorite G29 Recoil Spring Weight for the G29 in regard to full power ammo.
Post by: REDLINE on October 23 2012 01:59:18 AM MDT
There's been a lot of talk over time regarding the prefered recoil spring weight in regard to the G20.  Not so much in regard to the G29.  So in regard to the G29;  What recoil spring weight, in or not in combination with whatever guide rod setup, are you finding you prefer when launching full power ammo downrange?

I have not switched from the stock recoil spring in my G29 yet.  I do have a few different weight springs on hand to try out.  But the way things are going it may be some time before I can get out and do enough shooting just for that purpose.

What have others of you found to work best to your liking, specifically when shooting non watered down 10mm loads, and why?

I have the Wolff Gun Springs noncaptive two piece recoil rod and several spring rates.  However I have run the 21lb spring set for everything 10mm, and the following conversions...40S&W, 357Sig & 9x25Dillon without issues.  I use the 23 for some testing purposes ONLY, as I find it too much for defensive carry situiations.

Thanks for the input.  Sounds like you're using what I'm going to try to include:   Wolff Gun Springs noncaptive two piece recoil rod and 17, 19, 21, and 23 pound springs.  I'm excited to try them out, it just won't be today or tomorrow... :(

Factory spring rod with underwood ammo with my 15 year old 29. Works great I just change my recoil rod n spring every 2000rounds just to b safe.

Which Underwood load(s) do you mostly shoot?  Are you using the stock G29 barrel?  If you are using the stock G29 barrel, do you get case bulges at the 6 o'clock position of the chambered round just above the case head on the case wall (glock smiles)?

mostly the 165 gd from underwood and yes it makes sum pretty nasty smiles. but its a 15 year old glock barrel my 2010 made 20sf shoots same ammo with no glock smiles. glock has better barrels nowa days in 10mm then in 1997.
