Title: Underwood Xtreme Penetrator 140 vs Underwood 180 FMJ 10mm
Post by: Triathloncoach on March 12 2016 05:51:09 PM MST
I have a Glock Model 40 and a S&W 1076 and I'm going to try out some Underwood. I plan on shooting gallon water jugs, phone books, 4*4s. Just for fun with my teenage kids.

I bought a
box of 20 Xtreme Penetrator  140  - $34
box of 50 FMJ  180 - $31

These bullets are supposed to serve a different purpose, the Xtreme is twice the price.  Will the extreme penetrate significantly more?  I don't understand how it could? The channel bullet?  Just curious, but if I'm just goofing around (safety first of course) will I see a difference other than the cost?

I have a bunch of Buffalo Bore and several other brands to compare as well. But unless I'm hunting or self defense why not FMJ. Reloading is not an option

Thanks
Frank

I guess it depends on what your intended use is with these two. I only use FMJ for target practice and a HP or other for everything else.

Informal tests have shown the Extreme Penetrator will out penetrate fmj loads in hard material (bulletproof glass, sheet metal, etc).

In soft tissue they both should penetrate about the same. The Xtreme bullet is designed for more tissue disruption as well. Might be a better bullet for hunting than regular "ball" ammo which will just poke a hole in any game animal it hits.
