Gents,
Just got a full box of the nosler 180g HP..I have been running 9.2 longshot and it's pretty good....but I want to sooop it up a bit. It's going out of a glock 40(awesome gun)...I carry it every day around the farm. We have had some coyote issue lately( coming up close trying to lure the dogs out)...and I wanna make sure I got a nice surprise for them... And I wanted a nice hot load that of course doesn't blow me up!!..read every thing here on different loads and even Magnum primers, which I don't use but might need too??.... Any thoughts or advice is welcome..
I've only used mag primers with Longshot twice, and while they're not necessary for good ignition, I did see a velocity / pressure jump.
Loads below using 165gr MG JHP @ 1.255 out of a 5.15" pipe
8.6gr CCI 350 1,285 fps
8.9gr CCI 300 1,235 fps
8.9gr CCI 350 1,316 fps
9.2gr CCI 300 1,235 fps
I would be inclined to NOT use mag with your 9.2gr load.
While some guns and setups can handle more, I stop at 9.6 grains of LongShot with the 180's.
Your brass has to be inspected carefully or new if you're going to go this high or higher... ???
I got a bunch of new tnq brass and once fired wussy federal load stuff..looks like sturdy stuff
I'm seeing plateaus at high 8s to low 9s.
Stock barrel? Stick with Benchrst and Shadow's recommendation. I just ran 200+ rounds with 10gr in my 10.5" barrel AR with 180gr, with standard LP's. No obvious signs of over pressure. That gun thrives on hot gaseous loads. I don't own a chrono (I am shopping) so I have zero idea how many FPS. I did run a couple out of pure craziness in my G20L 6.2" LW barrel. VERY strong recoil, but manageable. The primers flowed a bit more than plinking rounds.
One point, my theory is that Longshot will indeed max out but can still gain in longer barrels.
Think I will make up some 9.2 and 9.6.......see what they chrono out at....thanks guys

By all means. Let us know!
Ok....no chrono, some yahoo at work shot ours with a 308
You may want to stop at 9.6 grains of LongShot. We have seen 1350 - 1380 from the 4.6" & 5" BBL
SwampFox had taken some of the 180 grain bullets, like Remington GS and Gold Dot, to 10.0 and 10.2 grains, but Smiles were noted by shooters in the past.
With your G-40 6" BBL you will likely see 1400+ fps with the 9.6 gr loading.
I won't load anything over 9.5g ls...seems hot enough to me. Thanks Shadow. And 1400fps is plenty,lol...
