Title: I think I'm losing interest in .22 plinking anymore
Post by: Intercooler on February 25 2016 04:21:47 PM MST
I'm finding I like just plinking 9mm more than dealing with .22LR or .22 Magnum anymore.

It seems I have seen in the past a couple of YouTube personalities that have said the same thing.

I have shot quite a bit of .22 and just can't seem to get interested in it.  Not sure why, though?

There's just not enough bang/recoil...

Hmmm 22 or 10mm, thats like going from a Vega to Corvette.

I like small calibers but mostly I buy 22s for the kids to fire in rifles. I do have a NAA 22 short and Beretta 22 short and I do fire them for fun.

Send me any extra ammo..  ;D

I love my 22s, my poor 10/22 has been through hell and back at least twice. Has to be an excellent gun, it's survived 31 years with me... It is semi retired now though. My 22/45 gets a serious workout when it goes to the range.. Usually around 500 rounds.
I've lost track of how many 22s I have owned, ranging from new stuff to old beaters I have restored.

I still like 22LR, but I have not been able to find any ammo at a fair price in the last 4 years.

I love 22 lr.  But I can't roll my own.  So I shoot far more cast bullets in other calibers.

Try a wal mart store.. that is where most of what i have gotten during the rimfire drought has come from. It has all only been just a little higher than before all this mess began too

.22LR is a gateway drug.

When you can reload 9 mm or even 40 plinker rounds for $.12-$.13 when 22 LR is $.10 or more G I'd like to shoot 9mm also.

I took my Brother-In-Law to the old FBI range today to test the Sig Mosquito he acquired.  That is a finicky pistol, nice but finicky!
It only likes 40 grain bullets and high velocity stuff like CCI Mini Mag HV ammo said to be 1235 fps.
It ran with some Remington Golden Bullet 22 Long Rifle.
Technical Information
Caliber: 22 Long Rifle
Bullet Weight: 36 Grains
Bullet Style: Lead Hollow Point

Ballistics Information:
Muzzle Velocity: 1280 fps

Anyway while he was messing around I kicked around the shooting stations and found some spent 10mm brass as shoot from the HK MP-5 10mm with the fluted chambers...2 of those that I found were split stem to stern.  That is common with those Federal Cartridges  :(

The Sig always has been.

I should just get my Grail pistol and maybe rekindle the fire. The 41 of course!

I prefer .17HMR for fun...

The ammo drought ended my regular practice with .22.  While I can typically find it on the shelf now, it's still an inflated price ($.10/rd or so). And even at that, quality of the cheaper ammo has declined dramatically.  Groups are bigger than in the past and every box has one or more duds.  Get into good ammo and I'm spending more per shot than centerfire.

I feed that through my target rifle but I can't remember the last time I "plinked" with a .22....I save that ammo for my kids.

.22LR used to be fun when you could shoot 500 rounds for <$20.
At 10¢ a round I'll shoot 9mm reloads instead.
.22LR still has it's place in teaching kids and introducing new shooters to the sport but at 10¢ a round it won't be a day at the range any more.
I do have a nice supply that was a lot less than 10¢ a round and when I can easily replace it for ~6¢ to 7¢ a round I'll go back to shooting it.

I LOVE .22 plinking. Especially with my Marvin The Martian modified Browning Bucmark, I swear I can knock the 'nads off a fly with it.

Tactical Solutions 10 1/2" barrel (No longer made) and mount. BSA red dot scope. I have like 10 magazines for it.
