I have a Kimber eclipse in 10mm and would love to have a commander in 10mm. I live in California so the option of buying one new is off the table. Would you guys start with a kimber on a build like this or a cheaper frame? My end desire is to make an awesome commander carry cut/bobbed ccw pistol. Your advice is appreciated.
I would never cut down my Kimber Eclipse.

+1 on that. Buy a commander sized gun.
Uh...
Since a commander a common frame with a Gov model, this is really just a new top end, not chopping anything.
Yeah, order up a commander slide and barrel and GYS.
E-sarco has NOS para slides in 40/10mm right now. Might be able to get a deal on a commander length. I don't know if it would interface with your swartz firing pin safety. Assuming the engagement pin is the same place on the slide it should work just fine though.

There is only one commander with a ramped frame on the commi list and it's a kimber in 38 super. The cut would be on the grip to make it easier to carry. I should also add I have a g20, g29, and a ria 1911 double stack in 40/10mm with a full length dust cover and rail. I appreciate the thoughts.
Cut to the grip...As in bobtail or actually shortening the grip to make a CCO style gun?
I want to make it a bob tail like the Dan Wesson cbob
Get you some. Living in California, this is about your best bet.
