Title: 155 xtp test today.

I used 4 layers of denim and 4 milk jugs full of water.Distance was 10 feet.It was 45 degrees outside.Using win cases,cci 300 lp primers,12 grains of blue dot powder and 155 gr. xtp bullet.Shooting out of a stock glock20 sf.The bullet went through 2 jugs and was caught in the third.Slightly denting the back of the third jug.min expansion .685,max expansion .705, weight retention was 148.6 gr.Case bulge was .432.I had total jacket separation.I'm wondering if anybody has had this type of result?

Was this new or used brass?  Which make?  How many firings?  I don't like the liquid chemical wash polish process either.
Brass can get work hardened as it is reused, this brittle condition cas cause it to split or separate...

The liquid chemical wash polish process, as some chemicals can attack the brass...ammonia is one such chemicals that can destroy brass...

I used new Winchester brass.I didn't have a problem with the brass.The bullet was the problem.It was in two pieces in the bottom of the third jug.The copper jacket was on one side of the jug and the lead core of the bullet was on the other side of the jug.If im not mistaken I think jacket and bullet separation is a complete  failure?

I wouldn't consider jacket separation a [complete] failure, specifically. It seems it was intact through 4 layers of denim and at least 2 jugs of water. The dead bad guy won't care what condition your bullet is in. In reality, the jacket, by that point, did its job. If that were a real human analog test, the separation likely would have occurred after exit. How is that a failure?

Sorry, misread that think about the brass separation...

Water is very hard on the bullets and hydraulically it will do things not normally expected...
Yes, once inside if it continues to expand to the point of destruction, it is doing is work and expending all of its energy and the sharp edges continue to cut things that bleed... ;)

I have read a few places they considered that a failure but you make a good point.I'm going to add a little more powder and see if I can nuke some of these milk jugs.I probably will stick with my double tap 180gr. or my Eldorado starfire 180gr. for SD.

While I haven't seen an XTP jacket separation in water, your results were in line with mine with the 155 gr XTP. My guess is that the core held together with the classic XTP mushroom.

You would be right.The jacket was together also it just separated from the core.
