Title: G40 gen4 conversion
Post by: Greyghost on January 20 2016 06:55:11 PM MST
Hi, Im new to glock and really new to 10mm,  Was going to get a G35 but while at the LGS was shown a G40, The reason I was going with the 35 was because I shoot a 40 at this time and reload, how ever I spend a lot of time in the Mtns and was thinking the 10mm might fit the bill a little better. Have shot 44mag for yrs so recoil isn't a problem. My question is with the 10mm can I do a 40, and a 9mm conversion  if I swap barrels and mags,  Thanks for any and all help

Greyghost, Welcome to the forum!  The G-40 10mm is a fine choice.  In a pinch you can shoot the 40S&W from the 10mm barrel but the 40S&W conversion makes for the best option.  The 10mm and 40S&W can be loaded from the same dies.  About the 9mm conversion for the G-20 and G-40 I have the 6.02" 9mm conversion BBL from LWD, it uses the 10mm mags and the recommended recoil setup but reliability is not 100% from my G-20SF.

That being said the 357SIG and 9x25Dillon have been very reliable from the platform also uses the 10mm mags without issue.  I handload for all of my stuff which adds to my flexibility to utilize these cartridges.

Another thing I will mention is pass through sizing of the 10mm, 40S&W, 357Sig and 9x25Dillon cases for best reliability.  I accomplish this using the LEE FCD with its guts removed and shove the entire casing up and out the top taking advantage of the carbide sizing ring.

Best regards,  :D

As Shadow said, the .40SW conversion for your G40 is a piece of cake. The 9mm (Luger), however, is not. I have not tried the 9mm barrel in a 10mm longslide, but I seriously doubt anything less then +P+ would function (not to mention reliably), if at all. Real (custom balls-to-the-wall) +P heavy 147 gr. ammo in a 6" barrel very marginally cycles my .45 longslide, with an 11# RSA. The 10mm slide is heavier, yet. Simply put, the 9mm Luger just doesn't have the case volume to make it happen in a long bore with a heavy slide. .38 Super +P, .357 Sig, and 9x25D will get you there, though.

Agree with this. Must go 15#, maybe worn stock 17# spring with 40SW in my G 20 Longslide. 9mm plinking ammo, no way + hassle of magazine. Stick with the .40SW base size ammo is my suggestion.
