Maybe this is just splitting hairs, but for reloading 165-200 grains which powder do you prefer and why? They both look good numbers wise, and they both look like they meter well. What about flash and accuracy?
Justin
I would pick power pistol. My father in law is an alliant retiree and can usually get it for me.
Seems like it is slightly more economical too.
Longshot for me. Plenty reliable, nice fps. But really nothing scientific other than I could find it during the last banic.
Longshot.
Because ;D
Both are very good powders for loading 10mm.
Power Pistol will generally give more accuracy with a bit less velocity. Longshot will give higher velocities but not quite as accurate.
With Longshot, a change in primer can change the pressure curve dramatically. The hotter the primer, the quicker you'll run into pressure.
Different guns will give different results, you'll have to see how yours does, but that has been my experience with those two powders..
Power Pistol is said to have bright flash signature and is better suited for the lighter weight bullets.
LongShot will push the heavies at the higher velocities much better and safer.
I am trying out BE-86 which has a flash suppressant and like Power Pistol(BE-84) was derived from Bullseye. BE-86 is working well but I still haven't gotten to the velocities of LongShot.
That is what I get for trying to forum on vacation in Disneyland on my phone. I only saw "for 165" and not "-200 grain".
Once I get to 180, longshot all the way between those two. Blue dot would start to sound like my song though, to be honest.
If your shooting at 15 yards and less, and only care about the velocities, Longshot for sure. If your shooting out to 25 yards and beyond, and care more about accuracy, Power Pistol!
I've posted about my issues with Longshot. http://10mm-firearms.com/reloading-10mm-ammo/powders-for-accuracy/ (http://10mm-firearms.com/reloading-10mm-ammo/powders-for-accuracy/)
With bullets of 200 gr and less, my shotgun groups better than either of my 10's when loaded with Longshot.
Power pistol does produce a bit of muzzle flash but no where near as much as Blue Dot.
