I shot a 250+ lb boar hog last Monday night. We have been seeing him occasionally during the day and he showed up most nights on game cameras. I walked up on him in the dark and startled us both. I was able to put him down with my Glock 10mm and a rail-mounted TLR-1 light as he ran off to my left for the woods.
I'm sure it was a combination of luck, a small swarm of Hornady JHP bullets and a little skill. I fired 4 times, and he fell after 20 yards to my surprise. It all happened really fast. Man, did he stink!
The handload was a 200 gr XTP over 8.0 gr of Longshot. It was the second large boar I anchored with this handload this Fall. No exits. I'm going to up it to 8.2 gr LS next batch. I killed two turkeys with the same combination a couple of weeks ago.
Love my Glock 20SF and Kimber STII 10mms. I'm longing for the Sig 220 10mm.

Awesome! Boar and turkeys with a 10mm handgun.
Nice shooting !!
Fantastic Tusker, great job!!!
That Boar had some serious cutters on him. Bumping into him in the night like that would have
been hair raising at a minimum and possibly much worse. Way to keep calm and focused. Boars move very quickly, so being able to draw your weapon, bring it to bear then fire 4 aimed rounds (not to mention activate light) on that beast (after a killer shot of adrenaline no less) before he moved 20 yards is impressive indeed. So much for the excessive and uncontrollable recoil of the full boat 10mm.
Again, excellent job and congratulations on your harvest!
Well done, lad!
Thank you for the kind comments. The 10mm recoil doesn't bother me. I shoot book loads not the exotic stuff and found it plenty adequate. Like most of you know, you rarely remember the recoil or noise when shooting an animal. I enjoy hunting with a handgun at bowhunting distances so much I rarely hunt with a rifle.
Fantastic....both hogs and turkey's. Pics make them (hog) look not that big, but I know a 250# animal has some size (I'm 240# and not that small hahahaha).
What area do you live in? (just curious). Tracy
Well done. I share the same views as you when it comes to handgun hunting.
Nice! Would really like to see pics of recovered projectiles.
Very nice job, always good to hear about a 10 taking a hog.
Very nice
