Title: Ejected Brass
Post by: erikk on November 26 2015 05:21:41 PM MST
I have a Para 16-40 Limited that I converted to 10MM.I replaced the main spring with 25lb  and a 22lb recoil spring.  The pistol is flawless however it sends the brass into another zip code. Would replacing the firing pin stop with a flat bottom one fix this?  I am hesitant to mess with it too much as it running great & I can live with the brass problem if I must
Thanks for any info

Yes it will help...some.

I have EGW flat bottom FPS on most of my 1911s. (40, 10, 45)
My RIA 10mm is set up with EGW FPS, Wolff 20 lb recoil, 26 lb mainspring.  I've never loaded to nuclear levels but full power loads still eject 12-15 feet.  For range use, I just use a brass catcher.

Next thing I'm gonna try is one of the dual spring systems like this one from Springco.http://www.sprinco.com/recoil.html (http://www.sprinco.com/recoil.html)

I know a few people that use them at the USPSA matches and some on here have reported good things about them in the 10mm.

Hope this helps.

Jeff

I have a flat bottom stop in mine, along with a 25#mainspring.  I have run recoil springs as strong as 24# and as light as 18.5 (current).  The differences in ejection distance are noticeable, but do not tame it to what you would want.

And, this is not unique.  All my 10mm guns do this.  Long ejection distances are just part of the price you pay to get 600+ ft lbs of muzzle energy.

You can also try tuning your Extractor and Ejector to change your ejection angle
There are good write-ups and other info available on-line, places like Brownell's, Brazo's and Ed Brown's
Google:
Tuning the extractor on a 1911
Tuning the ejector on a 1911
There are some nice vids on YouTube too

They have plastics which give a dead-blow effect. I wish I could come up with a way to attach one to my ejector.

Thanks for all the tips. Think I will go with a EGW FPS and see what happens.
As for messing with the extractor and ejector I think I will not mess with them
as they are working fine and I am a firm believer that if it Ain't broke, Don;t fix it

Installed the EGW FPS & it really helped   10-15 feet now which I can live with. Going 2 do the 40 S&W tomorrow
