Is it the general consensus around here that plated bullets in the 10mm need to be kept at or below 1200 fps? Thanks for any information.

Hello Steve, yes the plated are usually kept below 1200 fps and some actually need to be below 1100 fps. Most say use cast lead bullet data...
Which brand of plated bullets are you using? The thicker plated ones can sometimes handle more than the 1200 fps.

I run the Xtreme heavy plated.... they are good to < 1500 fps .
I think my max was about 1300fps and I got the bullet back... it looked fine without any plating issues.

I am using the 200 and 220 gr X-treme assuming it's more difficult to get them past 1200 feet per second versus the lighter 180 grain. Both are very accurate with a slight edge to the 220's. I worked up to 9.0 grains of long shot behind the 200 and occasionally get a very slight smile in the KKM barrel. I have not tried my Hornady 200 XTP's yet but I'm wondering if I will get more velocity and the ability to put in a little higher charge?

I use the same bullets and have pushed them well beyond their recommended 1500 FPS, in 10mm, 38-40, and .460R. They hold up and retain accuracy. The bullets are extremely consistent, as well.

I'm running 180gr Berry's just under 1,300 and don't have issues.
Well, I have issues, just not with plated bullets going fast ;D
It depends on a great many factors.
When you are running way below the "line", like with copper jacketed bullets, little things don't matter.
When we start running lead, or plated lead though, we are already operating at 80-90% of the capability of the material. Small things start to have huge impacts.
Start low, work up until you meet your performance objectives, or you start to get inconsistencies. If the latter, address the source of the inconsistency, if you can, and then work up again.
I have been using Xtreme 180 gr HP in front of 9.5 gr Longshot & am getting 1296-1325 with good accuracy. Brass looks good & I am happy with the load

I have. Its fine for me. I buy whom ever is cheaper/on sale as for me its just plinking fodder.
