So......
Last night my second daughter had asked about my new Glock 20. It appears she is a Glock girl, as she went on and on and on about how much she liked it, how well it fit her hands, when are we going to the range. When I mentioned I had another Glock 10mm that was smaller, she wanted to see it, and I obliged.
This left me with my G20 and G29 out, unloaded and safed for some dry firing. Curiosity got the better of me after I show my daughter how to break them down and I slid the G20 slide assembly onto the G29 frame.
Do NOT do this.
The slide assembly went on just fine. But then I noticed it the gun wouldn't go into battery. The slide stopped about 1/2" short of in battery. Which meant I couldn't dry fire it and get the striker to clear the firing assembly, a pre-requisite to removing the slide assembly from the frame.
Queue the panic that I had just bricked both my Glocks. How would I ever get the G20 slide assembly off the G29 frame is I couldn't release the firing assembly from the striker.
It only took me about 5 seconds to see the course of action. Detail strip the slide while still on the frame. So, I locked the slide back, compressed the striker assembly with a punch, removed the slide plate, removed the striker assembly and the extractor bearing, spring and plunger. With the striker assembly clear of the slide, I could pull down the takedown lever and get the gun apart.
So, don't follow my example. A G20 and G29 barrel have different length/shape lugs on the bottom and the top ends are not interchangeable.
Hey it was a learning experience! The first time I removed the striker plate on my G-29 the extractor rod and srping shot out like a rocket and left a witness mark in the sheetrock wall! :-[
Yes the lock up surfaces on the lugs are very different between the two models. The G-40 is said to be the same as the G-20.

The G20 fits my Supertuck for the G29 just fine. Didn't get stuck or anything :P
The holsters by JS intrigue me, but also inspire me to buy some Kydex sheet and give making my own a go.
Yes the JS holsters are so simple and only a single piece design, hardly adding any bulk or weight, holds the gun securely, protects the trigger... ;D
If you try making some, be careful, the heat needed can affect the polymer frames. Better to make a wooden mold to shape and press against. You need a molded track for the front sight where it folds in half. Don't press the area at the trigger guard inward too much (I see some that scare me). You can make a separate mold to shape the belt loop and angle of cant over till it sets. If you need any type info that I could measure on mine let me know. ;)

I have made some minimalist leather holsters before and had to deal with the sight track issue. I will take the heat issue into consideration.
Been there and done that with a G17 slide on a G26 frame.

Yup, what you said. I got my Ruger 22/45 Mark III in a pickle once and should have taken it to someone who could have helped faster than my strongheaded self. It's not a straightforward field strip, most complex of my standard firearms (assuming I keep the right parts with the right guns, good story, sql).
I have to remind myself from time to time.. Knowledge is knowing what to do, skill is the ability to do it and wisdom truly is not doing it. ;)
Shame on you for thinking it POP, my youngest daughter would have done it before me.
