Is EAA nuts?
I was thinking about getting a Match slide top end for my full size. I like the feel and balance of the Match better, but don't like the razor sharp edges and corners. The idea was to get a match 10mm top end and then give it a "melt" treatment and put it on my full-size frame as a carry gun.
That idea came to a screeching halt when I priced a slide/barrel/recoil assembly on EAA's site. $600 bones.
Seriously? I can buy a complete gun for another $90 bucks on Gunbroker.
They're out of control. I've been a Witness guy since I started into 10mm. But these prices for mags, barrels etc are ridiculously high. Tanfoglio isn't the BMW of firearms.
What would a similar Glock setup run?

Complete uppers range from $250-300 (like new take-offs), a little less if "used". New individual parts can add up to $400+, for slide, barrel, RSA and internals (which is north of $100, by itself). Lots of ways to do an upgrade or conversion for less yet. An added advantage to Glock is, no 'smithing required in almost any case. Mixing/matching metal frame gun parts almost always require fitment/functional work. Simplicity vs. elegance, with according price tags.
Looks like I could put one together using a lone wolf slide and barrel for about $350 for a Glock 20.
And to honest, that is in the ball park of what I was expecting.
That's about right. I've done a few. Catch the "free barrel" sales, and shave some off that.
The kits have gone off the deep end! It's like they geared it that way to sell more pistols. That might not be working out to good either with the price increases.
I wonder if it is pressure from Tanfoglio who doesn't understand our market.
In much of Europe, handguns are regulated like fully automatic guns here. It is a major bureaucratic struggle to get the "gun", but "parts" are not really regulated. As a result, a mfg can make a bunch of money on caliber conversion kits because buying a new receiver is cost prohibitive. Perhaps Tanfoglio is imposing this pricing model even here in the US, not understanding that buying a gun is not oppressive.
Yes but this aggressive price increase happened just two years ago I think. Maybe three.
