A lot of people have asked for old school Norinco steel core to be tested so here it is. Rifle is 20" SKS, distance is about twenty feet, ten rounds on an AR500Armor.com level III Paxcon coated plate. This is pretty near the worst case scenario, short of actual AP ammo. You know the drill, make your predictions
before you watch the test.

I figured it would go through the plate. It didn't even leave a noticeable mark. :o
.
Not the same , but at work we had a BFI roll off trash bin ( used for refinery / industrial garbage ) that was made out of 1/4" steel plate on a bosses ranch ..after work ....drinking a few beers and bored we broke out a couple ARs and picked a spot to hit on the vendors decal ...we were say 50-75 yards away using plain old Wolf Black Box 55 FMJ they went all the way thru one side and made a significant dent in the other side !
Probably milder steel, but velocity is murder on steel plate.
It is amazing what velocity will do. Also, a big heavy bullet. 45 Raptor website has some pics of a 3/8" steel plate that was punched through by a cast bullet, 230 grain. Probably moving 2500 fps, though they don't say the velocity.
