Title: Silvertips case condition
Post by: G20OWNER on October 27 2015 03:27:53 AM MDT
Found a box of 175gr silvertips at a local sporting goods store the other day and snatched it up. When opening at home I found the cases very badly tarnished and spotty discoloration. Took some brass paste to them and the rag was a mess. None of the corrosion looks to have weakened the cases. Other silvertip purchases a year ago had spotless cases. Has anyone else found this.

For sure! The Winchester brass can turn really ugly and yet be 100%.

Agree...I wouldn't worry about the brass.

I shot some old FBI 10mm a year ago. The brass was severely tarnished, as the ammo was probably sitting around since the 1990's. It fired without a hitch.

I recently burnt through several boxes of silver tips that I thought were too old and tarnished to keep around. They all shot well and the old 90's ones were potent.
