Title: Sig 10mm ammo, hot or not?
Post by: jasonheimerm on October 24 2015 11:09:55 AM MDT
Just picked  up a box  of   sig 10mm fmj and a box of the  sig  v crown.. anyone  know if they are  truly  full power  10mm? Anyone  chronograph them? I will  be  out  of my  tanfoglio  witness 4.5" just  wondering  what to expect

Also  picked  up   500 180gr  bullets, a lb of  blue  dot and  primers.   Cant  wait to really  get to shootibg  this  fine chambering

The Sig ammo is good to go and while not the highest velocities they are up where they claim...they have been tested here and they are posted in this section.

My test was the FMJ
Glock 29   velocity     1178    case expansion    0.4315"
Glock 20   velocity     1250    case expansion    0.4315"
Glock 20   velocity     1260    case expansion    0.4315"
S&W 1006 velocity     1276    case expansion    0.4265"
S&W 1006 velocity     1286    case expansion    0.4270"

I fired a bunch earlier this week. Potent and fun. It was my first time shooting a 10mm(Glock 29), and I fired 10 rounds from 10 feet as quick as I saw my front sight:

I surprised myself by keeping them all in the 6 inch target. In the future I'll try it from the draw, weak hand, one handed, and from 20 feet.

Is this ammo the new silver tips.  Meaning taking the place of silver tips since we can't find them any where.

Too bad it is so expensive.

I read on another forum there were some FTF's with this ammo.

I don't know if they meant failure to fire or failure to feed, but either way I hope it isn't true.

I love the new Sig ammo. It is very accurate and functions flawlessly in my G20. As soon as the rain stops I'll be chronographing it in my new Lone Wolf extended 6.02" barrel. Hopefully, it lives up to it's 1250 fps claim with it's 180 grain bullet. Oh, btw, I've shot both the fmj and jhp in the Sig load and they both are spot on.

The Cabela's sale wasn't so bad.

They seem to run the 10mm AR-15 OK.

It's close to perfect really. It's real 10mm without being punishing to the firearm or shooter.

Yeah. I would love to see 1300 fps or more out of my extended barrel. That would make for great medicine for whitetail deer.

It will be the hammer of Thor on whitetail at reasonable pistol range.

Any chronograph results from a 6" barrel with this ammo?

I ran these in 6", just not a Glock. The information is on the master sheet.

The Underwood Delta Elite load at 1240 seems hotter than the Sig Sauer ammo. But these are the Gold Dot version purchased 4 years ago.

So it appears the V-Crown bullets will be available to reloaders soon.

What bullets are the 180gr FMJ? They are not a true FN.

As promised, I made it out yesterday and fired up the Pro Chrono chronograph to test the Sig Sauer 180 gr. ammo. I was quite pleased with the results. So, to answer the OP's question on whether this ammo is "hot or not", yes, the ammo is hot compared to some of the anemic ammo on the market but probably not as hot as ammo from Underwood, Buffalo Bore, etc. With my 6" LWD barrel, it's gonna be great whitetail medicine!

I started a thread with detailed results in the "Factory 10mm ammo" section. Go check it out.........
