Title: 10mm carbine optics / red dots
Post by: sstewart on October 12 2015 07:29:03 PM MDT
What are you guys using with your 10mm carbines and SBRs.
I just got my upper in 16" from RMW Extreme. It is a fact top upper with a YHM upper. (Just like a AR15 or M4)
I am sure the gun will be fun, but I am not really sure that this is a "long range" rifle with glass like my .308 rifles. Maybe I am wrong.

What are you guys using and what do you think would be appropriate?

I wanted to not add any more weight to my 10.5" RMW 10mm, so I got some DiamondHead Polymer pop up sights (I have the regular DiamondHead pop-ups on my 5.56 AR). I can dial those sights nicely for 50 yards and under. The gun will shoot 50-100 yards, even 200 yards - but really that's stretching it. For size and compactness - and really no need I'm good with open sights and saving money for other projects. That said, seems like a PRO would be a good match. I have one on my 5.56 and it's very rugged and stable - again, not compact.

So how does yours run?

Don't know about run yet. I just put it together. I am using quarter circle 10 lower. (my project) Partly because you had some troubles with the GG mags and also because I purchased the Glocks recently and thought having the same mags would be a good thing.

I cleaned and lubed bolt with mili-tech and I had to pull ejector plate out to get upper & lower to fit. I had pulled out ejector before, but put small part back in.
Planning on maiden voyage for tomorrow night.

If you have been following my thread, make sure your bolt moves very freely. I came to the conclusion I was blaming my magazines when most issues were not the magazines.....not saying the magazines don't/won't need some fine tuning but they are not as finicky as I thought.

Let us know! What sights are you starting with?

bolt seems ok at the moment. Purchased Burris pkg with Fastfire 3 and 1-4 scope, PEPR mount. I may start out just borrowing a friends SigTAC for tonight.
May just use FF3 by itself. I have some magpul flip up sights on a 300 pistol, actually good with those off hand, but thats relative to pistol. Bipod rifle shooting for me is optics.
Not under 40 any more. LOL

I forget what actual brand it is but I got mine straight from Mechtech when I bought the CCU.

Ran ok. Upper ejected 100% of rounds. Still working feeding. I got one KCI mag to shoot 25-27 straight shots. But all mags seem to have bolt clearance issue. Will play more.
Ron sent pic of what back of Glock mags should look like.

Interesting. I didn't know the Glock mags needed modifying.

Some do, some don't. I think it's mostly the stainless liner that needs to be trimmed at the back of the mag on some versions.

The AR 15 bolt is a lot bigger than what's in a Glock pistol. Or any other pistol.

That kind of mod should still allow you to use the mags in your Glock 20/40.

The bolt is just different - it's DI. This AR is an interesting critter. Well I hope you don't have to do as much tuning as I did. I really know now the bolt must be free and easy.
