Title: .4506 mag in 1006?
Post by: Sean Thornton on October 12 2015 08:14:39 AM MDT
Can a .4506 mag be used in a 1006? Or can it be modified to work?

Those 10XX mags are getting expensive, aren't they?  ;)
The July '89 issue of Shooting Times introduced the 1006, and the caption below this photo states that the 1006 uses .45 mags with a slight modification.

If I remember correctly, the .45 magazines won't fit in a 10mm magazine well.

Think there was a thread on 10mm Talk (AR15 Armory) about it... but not as sure on being in that forum than it not fitting.

The magazine in the 1006 on the cover pic looks like an earlier 2nd Gen model magazine..like maybe from a 457?? (just guessing)

4506 mags will not work in the 10xx series guns.  They are too wide, so I can't think of any way to modify them.  I believe that the gun pictured in that article is a prototype that probably did accept mags similar to the 4506 mags.  I have 5 S&W 10mm marked mags that have orange followers that will fit in my 4506, but not any 10xx series gun.  I believe that S&W originally planned on the 10xx series being pretty much identical to the 45xx series.

After a littl experimenting it kind of works. You need to get a 10mm mag body and 10mm follower. The rest of the parts from the 45mag will work. The .45 spring, butt plate catch and butt plate from the 45 works. GPC have the 10mm body and follower.
