Title: Metric Sheet Ton of Lead
Post by: sqlbullet on September 14 2012 07:50:11 AM MDT
Sorry I couldn't resist.  Picked up 2300 lbs (metric ton, give or take) of sheet lead yesterday.  I should be set for pure lead for quite some time.

Tomorrow once I get back from a scout campout I will fire up the turkey frier and start converting this to ingots.  Looks like a hard, sweaty day.

It is a real pain to cut down.  Melted 600 lbs on Saturday and was VERY tired at the end of a long day.  Cut the large sheets with an axe into strips and then lowered them into a dutch oven.  Still very sweaty hard work.

Probably gonna shop for a sawzall today after work.

A old paper cutter might work.   You might coul make a kind of sheer simular...
If we were closer I'd help you reduce those sheets with this...

I had the same thought on the paper cutter.  My parents used to run a small print shop in Indiana and had a cutter similar to this one:

I think it would do the job.  I think my dad still has a blade or two for it, so I might see if I can rig something with the blade and a shop press.
