Was in upstate NY over the weekend and hit a local gun store in the middle of nowhere.
Asked if there was any 10mm and the guy said just a couple of boxes of old stuff.
2 boxes for $26 each. Cartridges are like new with no pitting and even the box was good except the flap were they had the price stickers.
Bought them to collect don't know if I will shoot off a box.
Awesome find! Congrats.
They work... are .40-lite. Probably best to just collect them and maybe down the road sell them.
I suppose I should have elaborated on my earlier though: scoring two boxes of those for ~$52 means that you paid about half of what I've recently seen them going for... Another few years and those might well be going for closer to $100 than $50 per box. I agree with Intercooler: don't shoot them, if you can help it.
I have a box of Winchester Black Talons I bought when they first came out, I use to carry with them in my 1006. I only shot one of them to finish off a wounded deer that my brother in law shot. I will say the bullet opened up exactly as advertised despite the 980 fps rating. Thanks to Intercooler who spared me one he set me for pull down evaluation, I still have a full box. ;D
I saw the reviews on these including here and was not impressed.

But they are sort of a "legend" round and decided to grab a box for collecting only. Then I said why not buy both and blow off a box too.I will just keep both boxes for now, as they do look sharp dressed in chrome and black. I will wait till my boy is of age and shoot a box with him.
Underwood 200 gr XTP's are better.
But, teh talonz!
LOL.
I may as well post this.
Cool find.
my 'stock',all acquired long ago before the stuff became to have a collectable status.

Nice!
I'm a tiny bit jealous... but I still prefer my Underwood 155gr XTPs over just about everything ;)
Someone needs to load one at 10mm speed and gel test it.
These Black Talon have an exposed lead base and i see that as part of the issue for driving them at the upper limits of real 10mm. Had the used a bonded lead core, they may have held together better to prevent core seperation.
Are bonded bullets better?
They tend to hold their total weight as the expand or even over expand without shedding petals off, one of the things that make the Gold Dot's a good choice as a defensive bullet.
This thing loaded 1180-1250 fps would be great. I'm surprised they didn't have it loaded a little better. Their silvertip line of 10mm was always warm.
I think I have four boxes here somewhere.
Not high impulse for sure. But no flash in a dark room.
The gel test speaks for itself.
