Hi folks: I am new to this site but not new to the shooting sports. I have 30+ years of shooting behind me after leaving the USMC in 1973. Anyway, I have three 10mm handguns: 1 highly modified Glock 29, and two Colt Delta Elites, one fired, one not. They are about 6 years old. Too many guns in the safes to figure out how old they are!!
I asked this question on another forum before I found this dedicated forum. Has anyone shot the Rock Island 10mm 1911 style commander pistol? Wolfie said he had issues with a full size Rock Island 10mm and is sending it back to Rock Island. I want to get the Ultra MS 10mm as a project gun, but don't want to invest the initial capitol if the gun is junk. From what I saw on YouTube, the 3 or 4 video clips I watched, owners of the full sized 10mm were not having problems. I like the idea of a Commander length 10mm. So anybody out there with any suggestions, I am open to them.
Thanks,
Gary
Ruzhyo, welcome to the forum, Thanks for your service! Many guys had good results with their RIA guns, and some ammunition can be culprit for a particular setup. While I am not much of the 1911 guy I am very much into the 10's.
Hopefully some others may chime in to share their knowledge and help you with the info.
Best regards! :D
The RIA has potential. The trigger was real smooth with no creep and broke clean around 5 pounds. The ambi safety was also perfect. I just seem to have a problem with all my 10mm's except my Glock G29 and Para Hunter which are awesome (Even though the Para had some creep & its ambi was a little loose, runs too good to send back). I had to send back my Kimber Eclipse (Wrong Extractor), Delta Elite and DW RZ 10 (Galling). They all run like beasts now. I am hoping that the RIA comes back great.
I am also looking at that gun as I have no 10's in commander style. Looking for a DW one but if the RIA comes back and runs well. I will consider the commander to add to my collection.
The worse that can happen is you send it in and it comes back better or you get rid of it.
Thanks for the replies. I am going to go ahead and get the RIA 10mm. My son wants one also, so I am going to order two. Once I get them, we will run them at the range and see what we can break. My gunsmith has had mixed results with RIA guns, but he said that he has not worked on the 10mm. Since this will be a project gun, I have already made a list of what will get changed out. I will keep the forum informed of the progress. Now all I have to do is figure out how to send pics. Never done that before.
Semper Fi--Stay safe.
I have one and it is my daily carry. I did have issues with the slide stop and the original mags so I filed the slide stop a little and switched to kimber mags. I also installed a flat bottom firing pin stop and put in a 26# mainspring and 18.5 recoil spring
10mmfan: The modifications that you made were highly suggested on another website I was on where these 10mm aficionados were talking about everything from slide velocity to the degree of the cut on the bottom of the firing pin stop. The springs that you are using were also highly recommended. Guess I will have a good time playing around with this gun; learn a lot in the balance.
I have the RIA TAC II 10mm. It has functioned pretty well so far. It has one third party mag it did not like to seat for anything, but other than that one mag I have had no problems. The bushingless barrel does take some getting used to. I kept trying the bent paperclip thing to disassemble the pistol and they kept breaking off where I put the 90 degree bend in it. I finally bought a special tool made for it and no further problems.
