Title: Power Pistol Properties
Post by: cwall64 on July 23 2015 07:30:20 AM MDT
Question on Power Pistol's properties - does it create lots of smoke for others?  I loaded up some 9mm with PP and 147 grain XTPs (so not exposed lead on base) and I thought I was shooting a black powder gun (exaggeration, but lots of smoke)!  Next batch I did was with AA #7 and no plume of smoke to blow away in front of me before firing next round...

Not normally as Power Pistol burns very hot and usually shows a bright flash at times.  Is it possible you had a freshly lubed bore?  Any oil in the barrel may have created the smoke.  Another thing that needs to be watched too much oil can raise pressures as the bullet forces it way down the rifling.

Is it possible something was inside the casing?  Casing lube?  Spider web?  Cast bullet lube?  Just a WAG (wild ass guess)

Barrel was clean and dry with a couple of dry patches run through it after cleaning.  I can't remember if I used Hornady One Shot or RCBS spray lube, but possible I use a little too much...

Not really an issue, just curious.

I use a ton of Power Pistol for 124 gr JHP max loads.

I've never experienced this. Just more flash than other powders, especially indoors.
