Throughout all of my handgun courses EVERYONE has instructed us to shoot until the threat stops, no matter anything else. There is no question in my mind this is what I would do.
My question is; Is this consistent with training others have received?
Thanks,
Pat
Yes shot to stop the threat, if it continues to move in a manner of threat you continue to shot to stop it...be very aware of your surroundings as others may also present addition threats... :o
My mantra has always been to shoot until the threat is neutralized.
Never heard shoot to kill in 30+ yrs of training.... Always shoot to stop
That's not to say later in those years, they started teaching 2 center mass, 1 to the head due to armor vests
+1 on no tunnel vision, but scan for multi bad guys
That is where the "Grey Area" of training comes in. The idea being:
Bad Guy breaks in; you shoot him; he drops to the floor, arms outspread screaming "I GIVE!!!!" In essence, the threat is neutralized.
Bad Guy breaks in; You shoot him; He grins at you and ignores the bullet and returns fire until his gun is empty not hitting anyone; you shoot him again and again, with reload, until he looks like hamburger and yet, he is still pulling the trigger on his empty gun while clawing his way towards you...His gun is empty, but is he still a threat? Any one of us on this board would most likely say "Yes", but some person who has never faced anything like it in reality might say you should have stopped when His gun clicked empty.

time for a bigger gun or 12g ! :D
Shoot to stop the threat.
This is the way law enforcement is trained.
I know i'm not the first one to think it, but i'll be the first one to say it,.. (Fitting as i work in that cesspool about every other week)
This topic is a perfect example of why Officer Wilson is a free man and poor poor innocent baby boy Mike Brown is six feet under, he couldnt resist the urge to charge that brave Officer just one last time, and he found himself getting served, WITH JUSTICE.. ;D
God Bless Officer Darren Wilson and his family. Thank you Officer Wilson for your fine service to my community, you are GREATLY appreciated.
Amen!

Your brain can live for at least 3 minutes without oxygen. Someone on enough PCP or other manufactured crap could conceivably continue in a mindless assault even though you have shot them to the point of doing everything BUT severe the spinal cord...there are accounts of PCP addicts literally having limbs removed and acting as if nothing was wrong at all.
If someone is doing something bad enough to warrant them being shot, you shoot them until they stop doing whatever it was that got them shot in the first place.

That is what I have been taught and what i believe. controlled pair and asses the threat. repeat until the threat is neutralized.
All I can say is I am going to try my darndest to make sure I at least kill him, or I will probably be looking at a nice lawsuit from his lawyers.
