Title: 30 reloads, 2 failures to extract
Post by: Poopers on July 19 2015 10:01:10 AM MDT
I loaded some virgin brass with 200xtp's over 8.4grns 800x, cci300 to an OAL of 2.60 with a light lee factory crimp.

Out of thirty rounds two failed to extract, they got about halfway out of the chamber. ALL of the rounds were measured with a caliper AND Wilson check gauge prior to shooting. I was able to pull them free fairly easily.

Any ideas what happened? I have NO pressure signs anywhere... Brand new Glock 20 with exactly 90 rounds through it.

Two things come to mind...
1st is the extractor and spring, is it damaged? slipping off? or is it sticking and not holding firm?
2nd is extraction starting before pressure has dropped, is the recoils spring setup allowing early unlock?

Did you use lube on the cases?

If so, you might want to tumble the loaded cartridges for about 5-10 to clean off the lube. I used to have this problem until I started doing this.

Shot 50 today with NO failures. I changed two steps of my reloading process ( less flare/bell and less crimp ) and took off the backstrap to get a better grip.

I still dont know if I limp wristed before or if it was ammo related but Im leaning more towards limp wrist.

Thanks for the replies guys

Sounds like you fixed your problem. Sounds like limp wristing to me.
