what can be done to keep fired brass in the same area code?

Welcome to the Forum Cdan
You can try a heavier Recoil Spring
And / or re-facing the Ejector with a slightly downward and rearward / right facing angle

Extractor shaping is the best bet.

I believe you're thinking Ejector reshaping, not Extractor
Bevel the Ejector down and to the right a bit
