Hey all,
Sorry if this question has already been threaded, but let an old man ask again...
Question:
How much gunsmithing does it take to fit, say for example, a fully supported and ramped Clark barrel into a Delta Elite? For those that've done it, I'm curious how much milling out it takes.
Sub-questions:
Any difference between the old Deltas and new Deltas, in terms of frame build?
Any barrel maker significantly better than another, Clark, Wilson, Nowlin, etc?
Thanks
Your frame will have to be cut. Seems like these cuts run about $75-$125 with the Wilson/Nowlin cut being more expensive as I recall. I favor Clark/Para/Lissner ramp styles, but I can' offer great reasons why.
The frame won't matter as long as it is to spec.
I favor Schueman barrels. Again, no great reason.
Don't know exactly how much needs to be cut, but my Delta is at the gunsmith getting a Clark bbl fitted along with nite sites and some other cosmetic work......should be done any day now. My Delta is my edc gun, and this should make it just about perfect.
Don't know about the quality of old vs. new, my Delta is a 1988 (2cnd year, 1st gen) blued model. I got it used and very much abused 3 years ago and has been a time consuming endeavor to get it where it is now. Tracy

Just out of curiosity, since this will be my first ramped bbl gun, is there still a VIS/bowtie left after the cutting, or am I getting the areas confused and they're nowhere near each other?
Well... There are kinda two ways to answer that.
The actual same metal is gone. The barrel ramp extend through that area.
The function is taken over lower in the frame. On a ramped barrel the back of the lower lugs are bigger. The get a bunch more meat, and extended back a bit. This new area is where the barrel bottoms out and interfaces with the frame when unlocked.
This picture from Briley shows the two barrels and you can really see at the bottom of the lower lugs, on a non-ramped barrel, they are almost two pins sticking down. On the ramped barrel they extend back 3/8" or more.

Thanks, that kinda makes sense. Tracy
