Get your attention? :D After converting a S&W CS40 to 10MM I'm all inspired to try this on an XDS 45. Too bad there's no .40 model available for the XDS that I'm aware of, or this would be a breeze. And pretty stout, too. One guy has been testing his XDS with 45 Super (essentially a +P+) and is reporting great results with no visible wear. He's also made it clear it's not a range gun and intends to use it just for periodic reliability tests and carry the Super as his defensive load. The 10mm barrel would be heavier, like the 9mm version of the XDS by keeping the same exterior dimensions. Now it's just a matter of finding out if a .40 barrel from another line will fit, then have that reamed for 10mm, and the length cut down to suit if it's a longer barrel. The magazine works fine as is, but may need to tweak the lips if there are cycling issues.
Anyone out there have both an XDS 45 and XD or XDM 40 to test a barrel swap for fit?
Yes, agreed...getting a 10mm/40S&W bored barrel blank, cut with the 45 XDS outside dimensions should work and may be all that is needed. That and tweaking of the magazine lips as stated. Why hasn't Springfield done this or any of the barrel makers is beyond me! ???
Apparently there was a 40 prototype at shot show same year the 9mm came out, friend of mine handled one. I guess they cant work the bugs out or something.
I would buy an extended barrel for my regular XD 40 if they made one...in 10mm
Springfield stated that they felt the peformqqnce of the .40 in the XDs package was too close to the 9mm to make it an offering. There is a .460Rowland conversion available already. Barsto bluntly told me no when asked if they were making a .40 barrel for the XDs. You may need to have a cusrom barrel machined using the .45 barrel dimensions and just use the .45 mag.
I have added some spring help and run the 45 super through mine without issue. I agree it can handle the 10 if set up for it. However, for me there is a glitch and I don'tuse them for self-defense. While shooting I use almost the death grip and had no issues. However I also ran some self-defense exercises with them and found that during some quicker follow up shots and with double taps, the super is enough that the gun can twist in your hands enough that I would occasionally engage the mag release with my thumb. As always, run some drills prior to carry. Everyone holds a little different, may not happen to you but. ..

Do you have info or links to the Rowland conversion? That is a serious round!

450rowland.com is the website. The video is for the XDm btw, just to show you what it can come in ;-)
