Being entirely ignorant about 1911's I want to install a threaded barrel with a cap on my Kimber 10mm Eclipse. I did this on a previously owned Glock 45 but it was just a slide in affair with literally no gunsmithing needed. What process should I expect to accomplish this, and where would I find a barrel? I guess I would need a barrel sleeve as well?
You would be looking for a Wilson/Nowlin barrel ramp I believe.
I think Barsto might be your only option here. Schueman doesn't have any threaded barrels in .400 bore.
I went to barsto->colt stye->government length. One up from the bottom is their Extended threaded match target barrel. You can specify 10mm and Wilson Nowlin in a semi-fit barrel, and it will come with a bushing. Price is $315.
This barrel will almost certainly NOT drop in. It will require fitting of the hood. It may require fitting of the upper lugs. It will almost certainly require fitting of the lower lugs. And the bushing will need to be fit to the slide.
I don't mean this in a disrespectful way....
But if you didn't know the barrel "sleeve" was called a barrel bushing, this is probably above your current skill level. No reason you can't learn, but I will tell you that I am a pretty confident DIY kinda guy, and I am about to give up on my first 1911 barrel fitting project and hope that I haven't ruined a $250 barrel when I send it off. If you wanna do it, get you some. But is is well above novice skill level.
