Title: S&W 1006 10mm auto
Post by: CLASSIC12 on April 30 2015 07:22:38 AM MDT
Hi everyone

New here, first post.

I am normally a S&W revolver enthousiast, but I just bought a S&W 1006 through an internet auction. I already have a Colt Delta Elite and I love the 10 mm auto cartridge. I reload too, which makes it available and affordable.

For a long time I did not warm up to the look of S&W semi auto pistols, but I have read how strong and well built they are, so I took the plunge. Guess that love will develop soon enough. And it should have more soul than a Glock 20 :D . And the price seemed right, 720.- Swiss francs (abt the same in US$).

Here is a first picture from the auction house.

Opinions / experience etc.. are welcome.

Now on the hunt for a 610 wheel gun (and that's gonna be difficult to find around here).

Thanks

PS Also got this but that's an entirely different story / brand

and a few surprises with it. First it looks LNIB, although the box looks a bit worn.

It was very clean, no traces of powder anywhere, and very dry, no oil, grease or gunk anywhere. Just some copper to be seen in the barrel and rifling.

It belonged to SIG (Schweizerische Industrie Gesellschaft, German for Swiss Industry Company).

In 2000 SIG restructured itself and focused on its core business of packaging and went out of the firearms business (going into a relationship with the German company J.P. Sauer & Sohn, hence Sig Sauer, and creating Swiss Arms for assault rifles and grenade launchers).

Schweizerische Industrie Gesellschaft - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schweizerische_Industrie_Gesellschaft)

By 2007 it was decided to sell a large part of the SIG collection, comprising lots of items they had in doubles, prototypes, rarities as well as arms from all ages and provenances from other manufacturers for comparison / testing / studying purposes.

For those interested the catalogues can be found here (in German but with some interesting photos)

Ok now time to open that box.

Such a nice feeling to open an old box and unwrap a new gun built 25 years ago; and one that is not produced anymore.

Hello again Classic12, It was I who sent you the invite over on the S&W forum and wish to welcome you here on the forum.
Yes the S&W 10xx series pistols have been very robust shooters, my first was the 1006 March of 1990.  The only thing I did to mine was change the recoil spring to a Wolff 22 pound setup.  I also have the 24 pound spring but rarely use it.  Best of luck with your S&W1006, the trigger takes some getting use to but still quite functional.
Once again you have some very nice firearms and thanks for sharing them with us to drool over...

Best regards...

Nice.  I had a 1006 some years ago and had to sell it during hard times.  I'd give up my Glock20 in a heartbeat for another one!

Heavy trigger, I measured a heafty 7 pounds pull. Nevertheless a very pleasant gun to shoot, the mass absorbs recoil nicely, a not a single malfunction.

25 meters off-hand. Always seem to have a nasty flyer in the group :(

Really like this gun, and the caliber.
