Title: varmint size wildcats from the 10 mm case. 6mm,22,or 17 cal ?
Post by: Cold Trigger Finger on April 06 2015 01:47:00 AM MDT
Are there any ? Seems like a 16" barreled 17 or 22 would make a good calling gun on a G20 platform . If it would be arrurate enough.

The hardest thing is getting barrels made and chambers cut.

There was the .224BOZ which used 224 projectiles and other offshoots .224 VOB / .224 Czech VOB (Voboril) Assault Pistol / .224 MTE / .224 TUMA MTE / XCR 06 023 BGC 035

The 224BOZ project was done on 10mm and 9mm case variations

OK . wow , thank you !! Looks like it would be a great round . I can see that it would be a challenge to get a barrel made. But !! If the accuracy could be obtained. It would sure mahe for a great calling rifle. I wonder if 16" would be too long tho. Maybe something like 12" with a step barrel ???
With the frame mounted scope mount there would be some disconnect of the sighting and barrel system.
Lots to think about. Thanks again

Seems like I read they had a real issue with the Boz tearing up the breech face.  I think they made the test guns with a replaceable breech to keep up.

Cool round though.

They lighten up the slides (skeletonized) on the BOZ to allow better reliability for feeding.  I think a 30 caliber neck down would be doable, the .224 has a chance too but neck forming may require some annealing and require neck reaming or outside turning.  But the whole point to the .224 was that the projectiles exist and were fairly cheap... ::)

Being a 9x25Dillon shooter, some rifle style projectiles could improve long range uses to a point.  Split necks are common with the 9x25 even with headspacing being held to tight tolerances.

Really, tearing up the breach face , that sounds ominous. What causes it ??

The Boz has a very short, but violent pressure spike.  Causes the case to slam into the breechface.
