Title: Norma factory Ammunition ???
Post by: Julian537 on April 05 2015 11:59:54 AM MDT
I have seen some of the Chronograph numbers for the Factory Norma Ammo and am surprised. I was reading an article on the Bren-ten site and came across an article of Shooting times from April 1991 and they chrony'd the Norma 200gr stuff at 973fps, out of a 5" Springfield linkless. Did Norma increase their load over the years or did the people at Shooting Times in 1991 have a crappy Chrony?

I have shot most of those on that list. The PMC is a real stinker today and looking at the old number it was pretty respectable. I think things did change actually... some better and some worse.

Norma doesn't hold a candle to the new stuff out there for bullet types or performance.

Interesting that the STHP is very close to my chronograph readings.

Just joined this forum, have been lurking/reading the threads for quite a while.
My 10mm journey started about 20 years ago,1st was a S&W 1006,2nd was a Colt Double Eagle 10mm,3rd was a
Megastar,4th was another S&W 10XX. Got rid(dumped/sold) of the Megastar,piece of junk,unsupported chamber
area. Sold the Colt as it was more of a collectors item. Sold the S&W 10XX. Still have the 1006.
Used the 1006,Double Eagle,& Megastar for chronograph testing. The Norma ammo tested close to/at the box specs
of 1200 for the 200 and 1300 for the 170. Can't find my chronograph data results to back this up,but I used that data
for handloading duplication of Norma loads.
I've acquired over the years about 30 boxes of the Norma stuff, all still unfired except for what I used for testing.
Hope to acquire a few more 10XXs' and a 610.

Yes, the Original Norma 10mm was potent and later batches were tamed down somewhat...The Pull-Down documentations are recorded here on this forum, thanks to those how have sent their cartridges for the History preservation.  The powder is no longer available that they used back in the day.  But there are newer, better powders that can equal and safely exceed the performance.
