Title: I fineally got my 10MM CCU!
Post by: cwlongshot on March 28 2015 08:36:52 AM MDT
I have known about these for ten years... shot them a couple times and always said I NEED ONE!

Well after a few back to back weeks of off the book sales... I decided to make the jump.  ;D  I of coarse went 10MM and G20 route but the 1911 is another option for those diehards.

I sort of like those side sticking sights, but I can still use the fold up sights on mine if the red dot quits. Just sight them through the red dot, fold them out of the way if using the Red Dot.

Yesterday I worked on the stock... its REALLY LONG!!  I ended up trimming almost 1.5" from the minimalist stock, then 1.25" form the butt tube to allow it farther forward.

Now its useable but still set at its shortest setting. I also epoxied/pinned in position. My state has a assault ban and although this is legal, the pinning will not effect me and will benefit should it receive scrutiny.

Today I go to the range...

At the last minute I changed out the Aimpoint COMP-C for a TRU GLOW red dot.. bad move. The TG is too low and forces different head positions, being its a cheap site it has parallax and in this application greatly effects accuracy... 8" 50 yard if I was not careful and 2" when I was. Its the dot.

Also my first shots where with my 175TC lead bullet... not real hot but what I would call warm. Well SMILES and flat primers where my reward... I don't like loosing cases so at least initially looks like this may not be a hot load friendly gun. :( My BD 155XTP loading was OK and shot almost exclusively as other 5-6 loadings I brought are all warm to hot. (Safe in the Glock factory and KKM barrels.
Now this is a blow back, so I have not yet investigated if the action was opening and causing the smiles or its a lack of support. I only fired five shots of the warm loads. 50 155XTP's all where fine with zero problems or pressure signs.

I don't really NEED for this gun to digest full house loads, but its a 10MM, sub 37K should be fine...

ZERO feeding issues in the 75-80 shots taken.

Somebody turned me on to this website. It shows me the velocity gain from when I go 5" pistol configuration to 16" carbine configuration. With 135 grain bullets it's about 250 fps gain.  :o

I had conversation with one of our members kmartinez1040, with a machtech about case head separations using Underwood.

I did try and find info where Drsjr1969 on here, YouTube and FB, if I recall he had some badly bulged cases, may have been with the Glock 20, but may have been with the carbine...My old hard drive  AKA "Brain" could be suffering from CRS!

Does this help? And this was from a cold to a warm barrel. If I started with a warm barrel the vertical rising wouldn't have happened.

Its just some carefully applied camo Duct tape. I cut and mounted a second piece on top of one seen to cover the adhesive.

Did I mention the HORRIFFIC "crown" on the barrel???  :o :o :o :o :o :o >:D >:D >:D >:D

It was all burrs!! Crazy rough, forget about looking with a loupe or checking with a cotton ball!! This grabbed your FINGER!! I grabbed a hunk of 00 steel wool and took off 75% of the burrs.

Two range sessions and accuracy was not what I expected, so it went on the lathe.

If it still doesn't shoot great it isn't because of a shitty crown!!

OK got to the range twice more.. quick trips but still was able to try some.

The new Crown looks nice. ;)

More for pressures than accuracy... Loaded slower powders to see the differences... 231 is a no, no with hotter loads.  different recipes. IMHO its too fast and being the action is a blow back, its pressure is still raising as the ejection begins...resulting in smilies.

Well, B Dot seems to work well even beyond "book" loads. ;) Only trouble is finding more I'm almost out!!
