I'm thinking about buying a G29 and was wondering if it's as strong as the G20 with a barrel swap.
Yep. I have the factory barrel in mine and get a hint of a smile on MAX handloads. I am sure that could be remedied with a barrel with a tighter chamber.
Thanks, that's good to know.
I used to have a 29SF and just picked up a Gen4 29, but looking over my past notes the 29 has no issues with the warm stuff. Plus, there really isn't a big velocity loss compared to the 20, in some cases as little as 30-40 fps with 200gr ammo according my load notes.
I've shot Underwood, Doubletap, The new Federal load, plus HPR's 180 grain xtp in mine. No pressure issues whatsoever. These are all good stout loads.
At least 500 rounds of Underwood 180 grain FMJs through mine, no issues! (Gen4)

Of the ones you mention, I think Underwood is the only true full-power 10mm load. Advertised fps ratings and what people get on their chronographs aren't the same. Underwood seems to deliver what they advertise more than most others.
I've shoot everything but underwood - BB being the hottest ( but was very disappointing - I have reloads hotter then BB in 180 and 200gr ) the only problem I had was ME so I solved that problem this way - to get a full grip and bring my fps back up to 20 specs ( 4.6" LW ported barrel )

and yes my 29 will handle all the loads my 20 can ( with a little more recoil ) ;D

Underwood is the hottest of what I mentioned. Check out intercoolers new chronograph results of doubletap. Very impressive.

Do G20 barrels fit and shoot in the the G29 OK?
CW
I have never tried it, but I think they would work fine. Maybe someone who has both can comment?
No - different spring location. and lockup.

OK I would have thought so. GLAD to hear...
How about a G20 slide on a G29 frame? I shot the mech tec again tonight. Accuracy better but now I think the lack of a crown is hurting me... Gonna re crown and try again. The AIMPOINT made a good difference!
SHITY "crown" looks like they relief cut and walked away. Pretty poor QC...
