Title: 180 XTP AND Lead Flat Point, Best Velocity and Accuracy, Longshot vs BE-86 vs Power Pistol
Post by: control_the_trigger on March 04 2015 08:47:42 PM MST
I'd like to stay in published load data, not trying to get outside of books, but I don't want to shoot 40s out of my 10mm.

Looking to load 180 XTPs and 180 gr Dardas Lead Flat Point in a Glock 20 SF with 22 pound Brass Stacker spring, and stock spring if needed.  10mm powders that I have are Power Pistol, Longshot, and BE-86.  Other pistol powders I have are Unique, 2400, W296/H110, W231/HP-38, Bullseye, and Trail Boss.

I was thinking 8.5-9.5 gr of Longshot workup for the 180 XTPs.  I had also considered working up to 8.2 grains of BE-86 based on Alliant's online data.

I was thinking 7.0-8.0 gr of Power Pistol workup for the 180 Grain Lead Flat Points.

Any suggestions/comments?  Thanks.

I have loaded 180gr XTPs with 9.2gr of Longshot and 8.5gr of Power Pistol with great results. Both are below book max loads.  Longshot produced higher velocities.

All of that data looks very doable and are safe book loads.  BE-86 should be good power yield for the charge weights.
You could maybe bump up to 8.6-8.7 grains Power Pistol.

H-110 and 296 are too slow and because there is no roll crimp it will not burn fully.
2400 works but is way slow.
Unique is also a good choice for target play.
Bullseye is very fast burning and easy to double charge if you are not looking very closely.
Trail Boss is not recommended it is fast burning and bulky...
