Title: RCBS Chargemaster Dispenser and Scale
Post by: cwall64 on March 01 2015 06:12:57 PM MST
Anybody used the RCBS Chargemaster Dispenser and Scale?  Looking for feedback on whether it is a good investment or not...

I have seen some people say they had great results...Sorry I can give you more.  I can't justify the cost for me.
I still use my RCBS 5-10 Beam Scale with the RCBS Uniflow drop set to drop on the money or just short then trickle a kernel of two to level. Hasn't failed me yet.

I use one, and if it broke today, I'd replace it ASAP.

Its not perfect.  With coarse powders, it will sometimes trickle a clump and go over a tenth or two.  In such a situation, either return some to the hopper, dump and start over, or set it to dispense a couple tenths of a grain shy and trickle up.

The other issue I had was the plastic isn't compatible with double base powder, so you can't leave the hopper filled when not in use.  I left Power Pistol in it for a couple days and it made a mess of things.  The powder just melts into the plastic, and was difficult to clean up (used alcohol) and mine now has "slip-plate" graphite paint applied so the powder flows correctly.

I consider mine priceless.  Especially for rifle rounds.

I had an issue getting it set up originally, due to the two-part design.  Once I got all the various legs leveled correctly, I have been careful not to move it and function has been flawless.  I did look up some of the reprogramming tricks to control the speed and implement them to reduce over charge situation.  Worked great.  Have not felt the need for the McDonalds straw trick.

I used to dread ever loading rifle rounds.  Now I just push a button.  For pistol, it is overkill and I use it for load development then move to the progressive press.

The first one was actually made by PACT, only with an RCBS green paint job and logo. Pact still makes that model scale/dispenser.

I don't know who really makes their new one.
