All threats are not the same, thats why its hard to give a opinion.
I don't think ISIL is a real military threat, but I think they are threat in the sense that they are a armed movement using Gods name in vain. They clearly have visions of expansion into the Middle East, Africa and Europe. If we allow them to expand, they later could become a threat. Its a nip it in the bud moment.
So my opinion in the short and long term the greatest threat would be ISIL type terrorists.
Domestically, what is a terrorist?
The man in Texas that hung his 2 young boys.
Or the Cop in NY that killed his 2 daughters, 3 dogs and himself?
This world and country have a bunch of sic actors.
Well, CNN is reporting that Obama's DHS says-
{Snip from link}
Intelligence assessment focuses on domestic terror threat from right-wing sovereign citizen extremists.
Some law enforcement groups view domestic terror threat as equal to threat from Islamic terror groups.
They're carrying out sporadic terror attacks on police, have threatened attacks on government buildings and reject government authority.
-It's interesting that they include right-wing in their story. Many of these attacks were not done by people who are right-wing.
I thought you were asking our opinions, CNN and FOX are jokes.

Until they do.... :P
Interesting argument over gay marriage. The right is arguing its a state rights issue. If thats how it ends, we will never get national reciprocity.
U.S Government is.

The only content of this post that remotely related to the original topic is "the right".
So, off-topic post in conservative forum about gay marriage = troll post.
No one is coming for your guns. Now that is interesting. It's been ongoing and it's called chipping away. However, all it takes is a crises, and those in power will not let a crises go to waste.
No one came for your guns after 911. If something worse than that happens, you will need your guns and the government will be too busy with other things.

Yeah, just keep believing that! Every time some whacko shoots a bunch of innocent people, new control laws start arising. I mean now no longer able to get magazines for over 10 rounds in New York, how long before they start grabbing the guns that will take the larger mags?

They didn't try to band ammo either! Really! ::) These fools in the White House, will attempt to tackle the rights of the people, while doing an end around attack on something else, while we are focused on the initial attack.
I don't trust the government period! It has so much hidden agendas and works more for big businesses...while politicians reap the benefits of stocks and campaign funding...escalating cycle of money flow to fatten their wallets! ???
The absolute greatest threat to America, Americans and the American way of life is the Democratic party.

I can't agree with this one. The greatest threat to America is lack of capacity for rational thought in the electorate.
The basic underlying tenant of conservatism is wariness of socio-economic change, especially when motivated by government sponsored social engineering. And liberalism to embrace those changes.
But in reality both sides, and most people, are captured by their dogma. They are unwilling to embrace the beginning of wisdom and say "I don't know".
We humans like to say the way things are is the right way because the work...We lose sight of the fact that the best thing you can do than the right thing is the wrong thing. Doing something always beats doing nothing.
Neither the Dems or the Repubs have a lock on stupid, or on trampling Americans fundamental rights. Neither party applies rational though consistently to their ideology.
Hillary running for President. She could make Obozo look like Reagon. :o
Looks like Vlad is taking Russian aircraft into northern Syria bombing "terrorists" against the Assad govt, where US fighters conduct daily bombing raids on ISIS. The weapons they brought int battle include surface to air & air to air for their fighters. Top Gun here we come !

Nah, our head Muslim in chief will back down like always.

Rest assured, it most certainly is NOT global warming.

'Most' Iraqis believe US is Islamic State
ALLY - Sydney Morning Herald
"We don't believe the Americans support Daesh," said Naseer Nouri, spokesman for the Ministry of Defense, using the Arabic acronym for the Islamic State. "But it is true that
most people are saying they do, and they are right to believe that the Americans should be doing much more than they are. It's because America is so slow that most people believe they are supporting Daesh."
On the streets of Baghdad, most Iraqis see no other explanation.
"The image of the US was damaged in the region, so they created Daesh in order to fight them and restore their image," said Mohammed Abdul Khaleq, a journalist for a local TV station who was drinking coffee in a cafe favoured by writers, most of whom said they agreed.
A rare dissenting voice was offered by Hassan Abdul-Wahab, 23, selling luggage in a nearby shop. "It is true that most people believe that," he said. "But it's not based on reason. It's based on racism - because Iraqis don't like Americans in the first place."
http://www.smh.com.au/world/most-iraqis-believe-us-is-an-islamic-state-ally-20151202-gldf79.html#ixzz3tcGdHkZH (http://www.smh.com.au/world/most-iraqis-believe-us-is-an-islamic-state-ally-20151202-gldf79.html#ixzz3tcGdHkZH)
ISIS was formed when we invaded Iraq.
The commanders wanted to secure the northern borders before the invasion to capture terrorists and WMDs. Those in charge disregarded, went in and the bad guys fled to the north joining other terrorist groups including remnants of al qaeda.
This is what SoS Powell said, you break it you own it.
Now whats the fix?
The President again last night asked congress for a use of force against ISIL. Whats the hold up, why are they not wanting to protect Americans?
The facts are clear, terrorism is just a way of life now.
No Regular Army/Marines in the Middle East again, let them fight on their own.
"Everyone is entitled to his own opinion, but not his own facts."
- Daniel P. Moynihan
ISIS was not formed at the Invasion of Iraq. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islamic_State_of_Iraq_and_the_Levant
Piss on Barry and his lectures. He is a pathetic disgrace.
Misdirecting, dissembling (shuck and jive) B.S. about no fly lists (which they weren't even on) and gun control, climate, police brutality, "set backs", "possible work place violence" etc, etc, etc...
His policies are a disaster and disgrace but like EVERYTHING else; he takes responsibility for nothing (except snuffing Osama) it's always somebody else's fault. He is an absolute and total failure and history will remember him as such.
PS.. Loretta Lynch can sit and rotate on her empty threats about prosecuting people for speech she doesn't approve of! Take your best shot.
In the modern era, hasn't been a more devisive President or Admistration (and that's sayimg a hell of a lot after W.)!
But that's just my opinion and I'm as entitled to it as you are yours.
No Iraq no ISIS
While the facts do show that ISIS was formed prior to the invasion of Iraq, the Iraqi conflict and the Iraqi's peoples perception of the west has certainly put wind in ISIS' sails.
I guess I am an isolationist, and I am aware that at certain points in our history that has led to wider and bloodier conflicts, but I would be in favor of us taking our ball (oil money) and going home.
All these terrorist groups are affiliated. al Qaeda, ISIS, PLO and whoever. They just change "teams" when its convenient.
I am also not a isolationist. But the way we fight is absurd. We took out Germany and Japan in 4 years and cannot handle the JV team in 16? That's the problem, we do not fight to win.
Declare war, raise taxes to pay for it and institute a draft and take care of business. Anything short of that is not going to change anything.
There isn't support for the kind of total war we waged against Japan/Germany.
And, there isn't a clearly defined enemy with borders, currency, manufacturing base, etc to attack. Sure, there are countries that are clearly ISIS havens, but what about the fundamentalist muslims in here in the US. Are we going to wage total war on San Bernadino?
The greatest terrorist threat?
Hillary, she terrifies me she might be elected.
The terrorists are smart. They know the history of Vietnam and Russian Afghanistan.
They see that we are operating in a half assed way.
Declaring war on them, instituting a draft and paying for it will shock them into submission. Including those harboring here in the USA. I am a fan of the Powell Doctrine.
As for Hillary, she is going to win and we will never get expanded gun rights like we could under Obama.

So if we agree the name of the particular ISLAMIC Terrorist group is somewhat irrelevant (and for the 1st time ever we seem to). Be it Al Qaeda, ISIS, PLO, Boko Haram, Ansar al-Shara, Ansar Dine, etc, etc. We're discussing Sunni Islamic Fundamentalism and their objective is POWER and a return to what we would consider the Dark Ages. There is no isolation from that. They crashed 4 jetliners and murdered 3,000 people in a single morning. Many, many, many more if consider those 1st responders and diggers at ground zero and the wars which followed and continue through today.
You can't negotiate with an enemy that considers your life or your families lives less than the value of a cockroach's life (consider me a proud Infidel). You can either surrender or fight it to the end and burn it out.
Considering isolationism and total war and Germany & Japan...
From Japanese perspective US bated them into attacking by embargoing oil, steel, rubber, commodities they needed to survive.... Conflict starting point of any fight is always about different perspective. Point is that now, just as then the fight has been joined and the other side is in to win or die!
So coddle, indulge, worry about being ridiculously PC all you want but there is no place to hide. San Bernadino, Ft. Hood, Paris, Charlie Hebdo, Garland Texas, Sept 11 will occur again and again unless we put an end to it once and for all. Any comparison between a world wide struggle between the modern world our way of life (freedom of anything; constitution, rights, etc.) vs. return to the dark ages or a "domestic" threat: nutballs Dylan Roof, Tim McVeigh, Robert Dear, Eric Rudolph is beyond absurd (drop the hammer on each of them as fast and any foreign terrorist my vote)!!
Sunni Islamic Fundamentalist have murdered more Muslims than any other group of people. They should be part of the solution if they want and choose to be...
Why did we bate Japan into attacking us? (I agree we did!)
We did it because politcally FDR needed a galvanizing event to motivate American's to action. In fact, his first act after Pearl Harbor was to declare war...on Germany!
Either all in and we all buy into the collateral cost of eradicating Sunni Muslims from planet earth, or we take our ball (money) and go home and deal with the terrorism on domestic soil as a result.
Or perhaps both.
See, as is stands now, the more Sunni Muslims you erdicate, the more moderates will join the fray against the BIG BAD USA.
But if we take our influence out of their part of the world, and they don't leave us alone, we can play the victim to the moderate muslims and gain traction that perhaps we aren't the great satan.
Or maybe I am just too tired to care right now.

Thats right Brian, the Democrats let 911 happen, let bin Laden escape and created a elective war in Iraq while not paying for it.
Some people just woke up the day Obama was sworn in.
Another day goes by and the GOP still does not authorize force in Syria, but thats also the Ds fault.

I share your thoughts.
The USA just can't seem to exist without a boogie man. We've been at the war thing ever since WWII. The story just repeats itself over and over. First the media creates a firestorm, and feeds it until its a frenzy. Then we spend a trillion of so to press our will, then those in other lands resent us. Lather, rinse, repeat.
Sunni and Shiite have been killing themselves for centuries and seemed to be perfectly happy doing so. Somewhere along the line, we decided to interject ourselves into the mix, and brought them together on one main topic. They agree... They both hate us.
All we need to do is create a few more power vacuums over there so more nut cases rise to the top. Now those nut cases are running around in our M1 Abrams tanks.
We keep it up, somewhere along the way we end up with WWIII. I vote stay home and make sure our friends (western values) have the toys necessary to defend themselves.

Mod Hat On.
Guys, if you are gonna call someone out by name, then you gotta triple check that post for respect. I don't care how little you respect a person's ideas, you will respect them as a fellow 10mm owner.
The fact here is there is plenty of blame to go around for our countries woes. And, if you are watching the news each night, then you have a badly skewed view. I ditched nightly news, CNN, etc about 6 years ago, and it has been truly refreshing. You have no idea how much availability heuristic warps your perception until you get outside their bubble.
Wolfie had a rocky start here. But he figured out what is and isn't respectful to other 10mm owners, regardless of what you think of them personally. He doesn't fit the mold, but offers a great "10th man" view. I appreciate that he has invested so much effort in making his arguments in a fashion that is respectful to other forum members.
Brian, you are on the bubble again. If this is all you have to say, then be quiet or you will be gone.
Mod hat off.
