Title: "Old" vs "New" Underwood
Post by: captaintrips on February 20 2015 05:23:13 PM MST
Hey guys!  So in a few other threads I see that Underwood has "backed off" on some of its loads.  When did this happen?  I have a bunch of  Underwood purchased in 2012 and 2013 that I occasionally shoot out of my stock G29....I've never had a problem and am not worried about a kB (should I be...??), I'm just curious what I have.

I just shot a brand new box of underwood 165gr TMJ today. I can't imagine it being any hotter! LOL

The 165 from Underwood really has been an old "stand-by." It has run flawlessly in both my Glock 20's - Gen 3 and 4.

I do believe it is the best load they make.

I don't think that Underwood has backed off other than making some lower impulsed "DELTA ELITE" safe rounds.

However the powders have changed in the cartridges as the supplies have be a challenge to maintain supplies.
We have seen several changes from all of the ammo makers...

Kevin's ammo at one point exceeded the ratings and by a good bit. That was good and bad I guess! We would have a 180gr rated at 1300 FPS going 1330 FPS, 220gr rated at 1200 FPS going 1250 FPS, etc... Some people with equipment not equal to that performance were having issues and Kevin backed them off. In the testing I have done recently all of them meet and/or exceed what the ratings are. It's almost a waste for me to buy Kevin's stuff to prove it out. He has plenty of test guns in 10mm to know exactly what is being seen in the real world.
The ones I find need tested for "proof in the pudding" are ones who load to a book loading without doing any actual firearm testing and throw a rating on the ammo based on the book numbers.

When I purchased the Underwood, it stated it was safe for Glock.  So I'm assuming that my stock 29 is still ok for the older "hotter" stuff?

It should be okay. Check for any bulges, popped primers, etc... your first round. Don't Cowboy it until you know for sure and since not every firearm is the same, step up the ammo like you would if reloading.

Hopefully you are sprung for Underwood?

Best 10mm ammo IMO. Great prices too.

Yes you can safely shoot Underwood in any 10mm Glock.
