Title: Coating my Glock LW stainless steel Longslide.........
Post by: Pablo on February 08 2015 08:48:54 PM MST
Plain old stainless looks odd. I want it black or dark gray. What are my options? I REALLY don't want to send it out of state and all.

Can I spray it with Duracoat in a can? How durable is that?

Cerakcoat is by far the most durable, but its not the easiest to spray. It is picky about surface prep too. I have done quite a few slides and barrels with it, it is impressive stuff. First thing i did was the slide to a very beat springfield xd9, it looked better than new when done. I decided to try to damage it, every day i put the pistol in the map pocket on the door of my musatng along with several screws, a razor blade and some change. After about 3 months there was only one tiny knick in the coating and no scratches.

If you dig back through my posts you will find a thread where I cerakoted a Witness and a stainless 1911.

I would search for the thread, but I just landed in Bogota and am beat.  Search for threads I started with the word parkerize.

OK thanks. Mainly wondering what options might be suggested.

My 1911 Colt Rail Gun is Ceracoated OD green and he did my AK (Saiga convert) receiver. The coating is tough. There is a local guy, not too expensive......the drawback is, his work while adequate is twice now, not perfect. He just has a bit different standard than I do.

As RW said, Cerakote is the best, but it is tricky to apply.

Brownell's has some oven cure paint that work fairly good. I repainted an 870 Express barrel, it it was almost impossible to tell the paint from the original coating.

If you used the gun kote, i have used a bunch of that too.. i like it for small jobs or quicker ones. It is same thing as kg gunkote.
Cerakote is many times more durable though.
