Title: Witness Poly 10mm - do I or don't I?
Post by: Buddy10mm on February 06 2015 07:42:03 PM MST
I know this gets hashed around a lot, and I think I've read every post about this on the forum.  Needless to say the results are, at best, mixed.

My question (s):

1 -Do I dare lay my money down on a Witness 10mm Poly?  Especially a full size?

2- If I get a polymer frame, what conversion kits will fit?  Could I, for example, get a P Carry and then buy a "Match" or a "Limited" top end to go with the frame?  (Intercooler?  Help here?)

I know the Elite/Match Steel guns are top-of-the line.  But I've got steel already (My Razorback, and, sadly, a Match that I let go way too early - someday I'll get another).  I want a  polymer hiking gun.  I'd take a Glock, but shooting a Glock is like kissing your sister: everything is in the right place, but it's just somehow wrong.

So - will a Witness Poly stand up to limited use of full-power 10mm loadings (Underwood and Buffalo Bore?).  I say limited because my plan is to carry "FBI" loads or Underwood's "Delta Elite" load on a regular basis, and move to either the fast 135 grain loadings for the desert or the heavy hard-cast lead loadings for the mountains.

But I've seen everything from slide cracks to frame problems on the thread, and I'm not encouraged by EAA's customer "service" reputation.

So - I know I'm flogging a horse that should be long dead, but I'd appreciate your best advice as of February 2015 - do I dare drop cash on a Witness Polymer 10mm?

Thanks!!!

If you want the Polymer version for carry, get the P-Carry. That seems to be the one to go with and what I would spring for (so did our board founder): http://eaacorp.com/portfolio-item/witness-polymer-p-carry/

It will have the K10 mags and you add the "Shoot some Nukes" parts from Henning.

- Flat bottom firing pin retainer block
- Wolff 20lb spring
- Cone fit guide rod 3.8" (call him to see if he can custom cut yours down to fit), or do it yourself.

Everything else should be just fine including the slide. Lifetime warranty if bought new regardless. Here are your conversion options:

Witness Polymer Pistols can be converted to 22LR, 9mm, .40SW, .45ACP & 10mm. You can order the kits direct from EAA or get the part number and try to find it through one of their dealers (or GunBroker).

As far as those conversion kits: can I use the long-slide kits that are used for a Match or a Limited pistol, or does the poly frame restrict my choices?

Loved the shooting a Glock analogy! I hear good things about the p carry as well.

+1 for the P carry. I don't have anything bad to say about it, except that finding a holster for it has been tough. Been using a IWB for a Sig that fits OK.

I emailed EAA asking the same question and they said yes the conversion kits can be FITTED to the poly framed witnesses. Notice I capitalized fitted, from what I've read some kits need to be fitted and some don't depending on your gun. Also if you go to the EAA store and look at the conversion kits the derscription says that they are compatible with the steel and poly frame models.

Fitted is a hedge. When I got my .22 kit it fit my 10mm match but not the 9mm match frame.
The 45 kit and 40 kits fit both. The limited 40 slide had to be fit by gun smith on my 10 limited.
