When components were hard to get I was able to get a thousand of the 180 GS. I wanted XTPs but they must have all been on the other side of the moon at the time. Has anyone used them on smallish whitetail deer? Like others on this website have said, I think any bullet that is suited to defensive purposes against a 200 lb. two-legged predator should work on a 150lb. deer.
I also have 200gr Noslers but find the 180s to recoil much less. Since I am somewhat recoil sensitive I will have to work my way up to the 200gr bullets with full house loads. Of my limited powder supply it looks like Long Shot will be my best candidate. Any thoughts for a newbie to the 10mm in a G-20SF with a FF III?
Hey Goat,
I think the 180gr GS IS, in fact, a tough enough bullet for deer in most cases, yes.
I like double lung shots on deer with 180gr or even 200gr HP's in 10mm.... And lung OR shoulder for WFN hardcast bullets.
Good luck!
Golden Sabers are as good as any other... 9.4 - 9.6 grains of LS will be a good load without beating you or the gun up, any more than that and the factory barrel may show signs of SMILES.
Good luck!
Since my chrony bit the dust I have no way of knowing what velocity those loads you quoted would be going. Do you have an estimate Shadow? I also have some 135gr Noslers I may load up for two legged predators. I've packed those for social purposes in my G23 for years, albeit in Cor-Bon not my own loads. They switched to Sierras years ago but their early 135gr .40 were Nosler is my understanding.
If I can get my trigger to suit me without a lot of $$ I could see a 6" lone wolf bbl. in my future and later a long slide.
I can see this place making me spend money like the good folks over at Marlinowners.com. This is great!
Way late to the game here but install a Ghost edge trigger connector and it will improve things for you greatly. I assume you are using a Glock 20. Here's a link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5cVc3RUBk4g
