Title: Wrapping up the Doubletap 10's
Post by: Intercooler on January 25 2015 06:54:17 AM MST
I found a Midway code that covered the shipping plus some. Time to personally finish out the Doubletap 10mm line:

125gr Barnes
135gr Nosler
155gr Gold Dot
155gr Barnes

I'm curious to see what the pull-downs show and how many get close to advertised.

All boxes are 5" rated now and we will be 6" just in case.

Let me start off by eating some of this -----> (http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/PHOTO/LARGE/american_crow_8.jpg)

No rain, the 40 MPH winds dried things out and I had 40 degree temperatures to get this done today.

I bought my first Chronograph to check ammo (Doubletap in particular) and now I check everything. It's really snowballed  ;D Not everything labeled Doubletap has been bad/off and today was pretty shocking  :o

Doubletap 125gr Barnes TAC-XP
EAA Limited Pro 4.75" 1638, 1666. Average = 1652 FPS/ 758 LBS
EAA Super Match 6" 1717, 1744. Average = 1730.5 FPS/ 831 LBS  David Sneed's test with a stock G20 gave 1412 FPS/ 554 LBS. Either it was unlocking early or DT changed the load. Maybe both.
Doubletap 135gr Nosler
EAA Limited Pro 4.75" 1728, 1719. Average = 1723.5 FPS/ 891 LBS
EAA Super Match 6" 1823, 1769, 1780. Average = 1790.66 FPS/ 961 LBS  :o I initially ran the first two and later returned to these for one more shot. David Sneed's test... 1429 FPS/ 612 LBS. Unlocking/load change?
Doubletap 155gr Barnes TAC-XP
EAA Limited Pro 4.75" 1451, 1444. Average = 1447.5 FPS/ 721 LBS
EAA Super Match 6" 1469, 1468. Average = 1468.5 FPS/ 742 LBS David Sneed's test... 1128 FPS/ 438 LBS Same deal?
Doubletap 155gr Gold Dot
EAA Limited Pro 4.75" 1451, 1451. Average = 1451 FPS/ 725 LBS
EAA Super Match 6" 1503, 1504. Average = 1503.5 FPS/ 778 LBS
David Sneed's results were 1283 FPS/ 586 LBS. Same deal?

Here are some more to complete data sets since the 6" is kicking butt again!

American Quality Ammo 180gr FMJ
EAA Super Match 6" 1006, 1004, 1014, 991, 1045. Average = 1012 FPS/ 409 LBS
Georgia Arms 180gr FMJ
EAA Super Match 6" 1151, 1120, 1161, 1150, 1119. Average = 1140.2 FPS/ 520 LBS
Precision One Ammo 180gr FMJ
EAA Super Match 6" 1115, 1119, 1126, 1108, 1101. Average = 1113.8 FPS/ 496 LBS

That's bonkers. I never thought I'd consider a 135gr load in 10mm but to be honest, that's pretty darn tempting come t-shirt weather... I mean that's, like, half a ton. Half. a. ton. Needless to say, that would probably hurt a lot. Maybe a ton  ;)

Thanks Intercooler looks great,  I saw where you shot one of the PPU' that I sent back, was the brass sort of red color or was it the one that was still yellow looking? ???
The three I sent back two were annealed and one (the yellow brass) was just resized without annealing.
The annealed brass would look like this...

These are garbage. What are these guys trying to do? Out a six inch gun with what I would say is a "fast barrel" even. That double tap was pretty impressive. Good to see he made quality again.

Those last ones would be okay for light practice. I like something loaded like LAX or a little hotter for practice. Hopefully I can get some of the new Sig Sauer practice rounds and they get close to the 1250 FPS advertised claim.

Totally agree. I've done 500 rounds of that LAX and it felt pretty good. Managed to turn some heads where my Armscor sounds and feels like a .40. Need to find another good sale.

It appears that Doubletap is getting back in the 10mm game.

I am thinking Mike McNett has seen the competition from other companies like Underwood, Buffalo Bore, and even the new Federal load, and has responded to same.

The demand for full power 10mm is out there.

It's going to get interesting with the new Sig ammos hitting the market. That will cut a little more into everyone's market share. If the new 1250 FPS practice load is $20-$25/box and gets real close to that rating, it would be nuts to purchase anything else for FMJ.

Let's hope it is in that price range.

Remington, BVAC and Armscor were about the closest to the perfect practice 10mm FMJ (1200 FPS). These will be the go to if they perform. It will be that load we always wanted from Federal and Winchester and never got it! This might also be the first 10mm box to show up in your Walmarts too.

Stinks that NJ Walmarts don't sell ammo. Ugghh...
