Title: current EAA 10mm
Post by: ct111 on December 26 2014 06:00:16 PM MST
Are the current EAA 10mms okay to buy now ? have they solved all the issues (frames cracking, bad springs ,bad mags etc..) i like the cz platform but have been leery of getting one because of past issues ? thanks

Go for an Elite series gun.  They will be a bit more , but they are solid guns and have been all along.

I am going chime in and say the newer full size with squared off slide and rail. I feel it's plenty robust. Not the Compact though. Feed issues. I am jumping back in for the basic full size myself. Like my previous Witness models, I keep it around Norma spec levels and run it with 18lb spring. The k10 mag's are great.

I have the Limited Pro, and if I throw everything but the kitchen sink at it, I might have one in 500 rounds fail to feed.  Its rare enough that it almost startles me.  The only parts upgrade I'd say were necessary are a stiffer spring for high impulse ammo, and a Henning cone fit guide rod because it does solve the issue it is supposed to solve.  The full size series are heavy pistols, but they run ever so sweetly.  I HIGHLY recommend the Witness Elite full size platform.

I also have a compact steel.  Feels great, but not reliable.  That smaller magazine is from a different supplier and just isn't up to the task.  It seems to run best with a lighter spring and milder ammo.  That twin spring it ships with is pure trash.  I do NOT recommend the models that use a compact magazine.

I have 10mm elite match and a 10mm limited. Both are very reliable. And as stated they pretty much fire any ammo. Both are SA guns.
I think the P Carry have good reputations, but I don't own that yet.
I don't think the steel standard witness models are as nice as the match, but are DA if you like that. (You can improve the function of these with polishing and some home brew gun smithing)

I have sold & traded my M&P for EAA pretty much and I don't regret it.

PS I have an RIA 10mm 1911 also, so its not the only 10mm I own. I like this also but I shoot the EAAs much more

I have the Elite Match in 45 with 10mm and 22rf tops,  buddy bought the same setup. I had to fit the top to mine, buddy's just slide right on. Another friend had to go one better and bought the Limited in 10.

We all have Henning recoil rods and bought the spring kits from Wolff. 18 lb. seems good.

I added Dawson fiber front, Hennings front is too high for the Match.

I just purchased a 10mm Witness P-carry and ran some 135jhp through it Zero problems so far. I added the wolf 22# spring and let me tell you this gun is a brass launcher!

I think you're going to be very happy with it. I have the Witness Hunter which I just put a couple hundred rounds through day before yesterday, and it reminded me of just how much I enjoy shooting that gun. I had quite a variety of loads, but quite a few of them I'd describe as 'full spirited'. Maybe 1,500 rounds through the gun now, roughly, and I believe it's rock solid. I believe I was drooling at the model you just bought--being offered at either Guns America or Gun Broker. Very nice.

I bought my EAA Witness 10MM full size off Gunbroker almost a year ago, and its shoots superbly. I have a Para LS Hunter 1911 in 10mm and the Witness is more accurate and is probably my favorite handgun I own. I plan on carrying it once my new holster comes in from Foxx.

does anyone make grips that will fit the eaa witness elite match 10mm? i don't care for the factory grips

I think Intercooler has some sites that make custom grips for Witness guns.  The Elite Match uses the same grips as the full size.

Hogue also makes the rubber finger grips for Tanfoglio (might be CZ) Intercooler has stated that he likes these.
I have no direct experience. I have not yet changed grips on any of mine.
Remember that many custom grips are for the limited or gold team, which have magwells. Therefore the grips are too short for your standard witness.

I have the Match and the Standard fullsize. I can say shooting them that Match is much more accurate for me having a nicer trigger on it. They are both accurate however. Never tried to bench rest them.

Match is more accurate.

But, I think alot of that is the trigger.  I keep meaning to drill and tap the trigger on my full size for an over-travel stop and then test again.

I have seen some with the Hogue but from what I understand they need to be stretched quite a bit.

Copper here

I use a small rubber washer to keep'em tight.
