Title: LOVEX Powder Samples
Post by: The_Shadow on December 01 2014 04:29:57 PM MST
Thanks to Intercooler's curiosity and dealings he was able to obtain some samples of the LOVEX powders.
LOVEX® are manufactured in Explosia® Company in Pardubice-Semtín plant (Czech Republic).
I will open each and take pictures of each for more detailed views as time permits.

Interesting! Does one of these look like the new Underwood powder?

This is the powder picture I originally thought it was...D037-02

Anyone how has the Quick Loads Program who can run some numbers with LOVEX D037-01 powder I would be interested in following data results.

This is what I am interested in studying the performance values.  Velocity should be 1300 fps or 1350 fps at 5" if my notes are close.
10mm using 13.0 grains of LOVEX D037-01 under a Hornady 180 gr XTP to see where it is pressure wise.  If they don't have the LOVEX Do37-01 please run the same using 13.0 grains of Accurate Arms #7.

If you can take a screenshot of the output data that will also be a big help.

Thanks,  ;)

73080 PSI
1525 fps at 1.26" OAL and 5" barrel

Both powders are exactly the same.

Thanks Geeman, I knew this would be high because it is over the recommended book loads by 2 + grains for a 180 grain bullet.

But the Underwood pull-down sure looks like the D037-01 powder...it is harder to make an ID when the pieces don't fit the puzzle...

It is why I originally thought the powder would have been D037-02 which fits the AA#9 profile better.

I've grown to trust Quickload in principal for rifle loads when tweaked to chamber volume and chrono data.  I've also grown to NOT trust it in any real way for handgun loads and powders.

This load shows a very early peak pressure, but still shows 7% unburned with pressure tailing off quickly.  It really doesn't fit a pressure curve you would expect to be see.

BIG grain of salt on this one.

I will have to do a work-up to see if pressure spikes as I approach the target weight... :o
Hottest AA#7 book load is shown at 11.0 grains with a 180 gr JHP

This is the Hornady 180 XTP load max 10.7 grains @ 1,183 35,300 1.250"  (based on this there may be some room to push  a little)  ???

35,365 PSI and 1222 fps for this load with Quickload.

82% powder burn, which I would expect to be much closer to 100%.

Thanks for the info Geeman, I have never worked with LOVEX powders, I have worked with AA#7 and AA#9, and everything I've studied about LOVEX showed a direct grain for grain for D037-01 with AA#7 and D037-02 a direct grain for grain with AA#9.

Time to load some testers... :D

For the first test I have put together the following loadings;

#1 (0.5 grain over highest book loading)
Rainer 180gr HEX Plated HP
Star Line (new) COAL is 1.2550"
LOVEX D037-01 12.0 grains

#2 (1.0 grain over highest book loading)
Rainer 180gr HEX Plated HP
Star Line (new) COAL is 1.2550"
LOVEX D037-01 12.5 grains

I don't normally work this aggressive, usually I work at 2/10 or 0.2 grain at a shot... :o
When I get the test done I'll publish a report. ::)
