Title: Holster ideas needed for Glock 29 Gen 4
Post by: Buckeye 50 on November 21 2014 08:05:34 AM MST
Please give me your thoughts and suggestions on an IWB/CCW holster for either the right hip or small of back.

Thanks,

Pat

I use the JS IWB for 29 and 30  http://armory.jsholsters.com/shop/item.aspx?itemid=2060 (http://armory.jsholsters.com/shop/item.aspx?itemid=2060)
Easy to slip on and off, going to the restroom, it doesn't fall off, and still accessible.  I use it with 1 1/2" belt, and it clips over the bottom edge of the belt.  You can lift it out from under and over the belt to remove.
The two screws allow you to adjust tension for retention.

I have a Crossbreed Supertuck for my G29.  Like it very much, works great.

I also use an Alien Gear for my 1911 and am happy with it as well.

Do you have a preference as far as material goes? Obviously each has their merits, depending on a ton of different factors, so that's usually a good place to start. I prefer kydex for ease of use and maintenance as well as the durability and rigidity (for re-holstering and so forth). But leather is also very comfortable and looks nice (if that's a concern at all). sqlbullet mentioned Alien Gear holsters, which are a hybrid holster, and I've heard nothing but good things from two guys I work with that use them. I would imagine it's a lot like a "best of both worlds" scenario with a hybrid type holster, if their relatively large size isn't a concern, since I know you'll be carrying a relatively small handgun. Also (and this is just my opinion) I would try to stay away from SoB holsters out of an abundance of caution for the health of my lower back/spine; I've landed hard on a backup gun kept under my uniform only once and that's the last time I ever want to feel that unpleasantness  ;)

The larger size to the hybrid holster is to distribute the guns weight more evenly. The newest Alien Gear 2.0 has a leather backing with a sweat shield and a neoprene layer that goes against your body, it's a very comfortable holster.

I really like my aliengear cloak tuck 2.0 and it should fit your gun. I had to reheat mine for my witness p carry

I carry my Glock 29 in a Comptac-CTAC worn IWB at 3:30.

It's a thick gun, so I went with a thin Kydex holster. The cant is adjustable and having the belt loops fore and aft of the gun keeps it stable.

As usual here, great input everyone.  I am moving today and tomorrow into a new house so I hope to have time next week to deep dive into this.

Thanks everyone!
