I've got the following:
500 180gr HST 40 cal bullets
A bunch of 10mm brass
CCI Primers
Hogdon 800x powder
I wonder what I'll be doing...
Its easy to push those too fast. They get full expansion from 1050fps. I wouldnt go too much hotter.
P33v3, have you decided on a charge weight yet?
What velocity are you shooting for? ;D (pun intended)
The HST can longer than some of the other bullets of the same weight. Usually the XTP is longer than the HST and that data would be comparable...
Well...I was thinking around 8.5 grains of 800x which should give me about 1200 fps. Is that too much for that bullet?
Should be fine pressure wise...About right with the velocity I would think! 8)
As cheap as I got the HSTs for (250 for about 40 bucks) I may use some for plinking. So a little slower (ie slower than 1300) is ok. But I don't want to go too slow.
I have 250 ordered as well. I have been trying to decide what powder to try and how much while I'm waiting for them to arrive. Was considering Blue Dot and maybe starting somewhere around 10 grains and going up from there. However, I also have a can of 800X I could try. I would like to push them around 1250fps.

I would guess 1250fps would be somewhere around 9 grains but don't quote me on that. Always work up to it.

I assume you mean 9 grains of 800X? I just chronographed some 180 grain XTP's today over 10.9 grains of Blue Dot with Winchester LPP and a OAL of 1.255" with a five shot average of 1307 feet per second. Test gun was a Kimber TLE II 10mm 1911.
Correct, 800x is all I use.

Ok great. I look forward to hear about your experiences. When I receive mine, I'll be sure to share as well.
There is a thread in the 10mm reloading section that shows the results of my HST test loads that I fired yesterday. I have settled on 8.4 grains of IMR 800X at 1250 feet per second with the 180 grain HST's. It was a very consistent load that achieved my target velocity.

P33v3 have you had a chance to get those HST's loaded up and tested yet?
